We come to Langford Lanes occasionally, usually for family outings. We visited tonight (Sunday, Jul 28th) and loved our service from our server, who regretfully we didn’t get the name of. He was very attentive and quick to bring our drinks and food. We did run into an incident, however, when we realized our bowling balls were not returning to the rack. We didn’t know initially that this was happening; we actually thought the balls were returning to a neighbouring rack beside us. It wasn’t until our second throw that we realized the problem. We then informed the staff and someone who looked to be acting as a manager, Payton, came over to clear out the conveyor. Much to our surprise the balls had been backlogged way down the lane, and more than 30 were retrieved. Our group of 4 only had 2 throws each, so only used 8 balls total. Payton was visibly annoyed, rolling her eyes and shaking her head as she cleared the backlog, and told us “next time, you need to come tell us right away when you KNOW the balls are stuck” and we replied saying we genuinely didn’t realize. Payton then replied with a scoff, saying, “well CLEARLY you did, because you started taking balls from the other rack” which, yes, we took 2 balls from the neighbouring rack that we initially thought the balls were going back to. We of course had no clue the balls were getting so backlogged, but Payton didn’t believe us. Later on, after the issue was dealt with, my brother asked a staff member if we could have our time lost to unclogging the conveyor added back to our game. The staff member said they would check and find out. Payton then came over again and gave us a receipt saying in an alarmingly condescending tone, “SO I ALREADY added your time back before, but if you REALLY want me to I’ll add another 5 mins”. We were all very offput by how she was talking to us, and so said that was okay & we were happy with the time she had added back. She then again, in the same tone, went “are you SURE? Because I can add the time back if you REALLY want me to…” We told her again, no thank you, simply to end the interaction since all of us felt so awkward. It put a huge damper on the remainder of our night, feeling blamed for causing an issue we literally didn’t even have enough time on the lane to accomplish, and then afterward, our simple ask of adding the time back for the interruption was then treated like we were asking for a free handout after knowingly causing a problem. I don’t know if Payton was just having a very hard day which she then took out on us, but regardless, her behaviour reflected poorly on the business as a whole and ultimately left us feeling discouraged to return. I have worked in customer service & hospitality for over a decade, and I wouldn’t EVER dream of treating clientele like this. We will try again, maybe, but I highly recommend to Payton that she be mindful of how she is speaking to her guests, as many may not return if she continues to display such a lack of...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience at Langford Lanes and City Centre Grille on October 3rd 2024.
We arrived at 8:20ish for our 9pm reservation in VIP to bowl for the evening. We thought we would sit in the Grille and have a drink as we waited for our lanes. We sat ourselves at a table in the middle as there was going to be 6 of us. We sat and waited for our server and she gave us some menus, and she asked if we wanted to order food, we said no thank you we are just in for a quick drink as we have just over half an hour before our reservation on the lanes. She ripped our menus away and walked away. She came back to our table and said, "I suggest you sit at the bar then". We did not want to sit at the bar as we just wanted to relax and enjoy a drink before we played. She came back dropped off 1 menu for drinks and then never came back so we left. Feeling bothered and a little pissed we went to the front desk and asked if we could check in early. Thankfully the girl at the front desk was nice and said we could head over to our lane early and hang out until 9.
We got to our lane around 8:45 and just getting our shoes and teams organized. Our server came over and greeted us with a very unwelcoming aggressive attitude, even admitting to her hostility and swearing at us for no reason. When my friend tried to order another drink it was his fourth drink in 80 minutes. We had not been previously drinking and had just had dinner so he was excited to start his birthday evening. Our server abruptly cut him off, insisting that he was now only allowed to have water. She left him a water at the bar and then when he went to go get it, she got upset with him. I am not sure if my friend ever really got ever enjoy his night as our server seemed to have a problem with him right from the get go. It was a little disheartening as among all of us he was the only black person there and felt a little racially motivated on her part.
Despite having an hour left of our bowling she insisted that we all pay our bills, which prevented us from ordering anything else as she never came back. She also took all the receipts and removed her name tag seemingly trying to avoid any and all accountability.
When we asked to speak to a manager, she falsely claimed to be one. Eventually, an actual manager came out but offered little help, stating he had "talked" to her without addressing our concerns. To make matters worse, she even threatened my friend outside where he spent the last 45 minutes of his night waiting because he could not stand the poor treatment he received inside the establishment.
It was astonishing to witness and be apart of such horrible customer service. The server's behaviour and attitude were absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. The experience we had last night was absolutely horrible and of course the person treated the worst was the person we were supposed to be celebrating. I hope this is addressed and it never happens to any...
Read morewe like langford lanes as it is fun to go there, but unfortunately there is a form of discrimination towards individuals with different abilities (disabilities)
having a time limit for individuals with different abilities who has support with them shouldn't even be thought of/exist, autism, cp, foxg1, epilepsy, down syndrome etc. don't all of a sudden stop at 5:00 pm or on weekends ...
by having that time limit, the discrimination starts at 5:00 pm and on weekends, because all others of all ages are still able to attend, but a wheelchair user for example who has support with them have to stay outside on the sidelines after 5:00 pm and on weekends
many individuals with different abilities and even their support might be at school, might be at program or work, and same thing with a support, so their only time they can go is after 5:00pm as most dont end between 3-5:00 pm, but can't because of that discrimination
i would highly assume management/supervisor/staff would be upset if they were in the same situation, to have a child, a brother, friend or even a parent be blocked out after 5:00 pm just because of needing support with them, if they don't feel upset that they get to go but the other can't ... then i question them
to say "We are open to the public daily and welcome bowlers of all ages and abilities" clearly isn't true, because they are not open to all abilities after 5:00 pm and weekends who have support with them
this is why access2 and other similar cards exist, so it makes it more accessible for them to be able to go to public places/activities so their rights are also met just like "able-bodied" who don't need support
there are many others with different abilities who are in the same situation as it has been voiced out before
having a discrimination towards a human being due to their different abilities does take away that individuals rights, and can become a case with human rights tribunal and i know for a fact no company/organization/political role wants that to happen ...
other than that, the times we were able to make it, has been a fun experience, but it's also been a struggling...
