From a friend on Facebook “I'm writing in light of the recent act of violence at Falafel Yoni on St-Viateur. Thankfully no one was hurt!
I met Yoni when he had just opened in the Mile End about 6 years ago. I welcomed him to our neighborhood as I was happy to have a reasonably priced, quality 'street fast food' Falafel place, with an unpretentious & innovative decor & a tiny menu, simple straight forward & good. I felt very sure he would be successful. Yoni, a young man, was easy to talk too, polite & cordial & hard at work establishing his vision & his new business. I wished him the best of luck. Since then, I have eaten at Yoni hundreds of times so this violent act really affected me! How can this happen in our neighborhood which is so diverse & peaceful ! I was very disturbed & appalled. Last night I took a walk with a friend as I wanted to see the damage & yes, I saw the 3 bullet holes in the glass facade which made me feel nauseous, however, what really struck me & I was pleased to see, Falafel Yoni was packed full of people inside & out unfazed by the bulletholes! A couple of middle-aged women were sentinels sitting outside both eating a falafel pita bravely supporting & 'guarding the fort'. Our thoughts connected in solidarity for a small business which survived the Pandemic! Yoni, like many young people, successfully established an idea; not many of us can do that, it is a talent in itself which I admire & respect. I don't care what his religion is or where he was born, he is providing a service, employment & helping the economy of the Mile End. These cowardly & violent acts have no place in our neighborhood! I truly believe these cowardly acts are rooted in jealousy & very little else. The people who did this should be ashamed of themselves. Acting on "hate" is so destructive & unproductive; instead, be creative! With hard work, maybe YOU too can start a successful & sustainable business & I would be the first to wish you the...
Read moreFalafels can be the worst food on the planet. Most chains and many places fry the falafel, let it sit until someone comes in to buy it. And it's a mess.
Falafel Yoni is a totally different deal.
First, falafels can come in sizes from kinger marbles, then to golf balls, and I've had some almost the size of hardballs. Then when you crack open the falafel, it should be green in colour. The outside should be crisp, the interior soft and pillowy. There should be a sesame forward dip to put it into, if it's not already in a pita sandwich. But the real way to know is just to eat it on its own.
And these are delicious on their own. No dip. No pita. Nothing else. Just the falafel. Which is the litmus test.
These are perfectly sized, crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside. The flavour is outstanding. You could just buy a bag and fight over it -- which is precisely what we did.
If you don't like falafels, because all you've eaten are the marginal ones sitting in an aluminium pan that get microwaved when you order them for a sandwich, this is the cure.
Also, they make a drink called Limonana -- which is made in house. It's a lemonade with mint. You can fight over that too.
Or you can just go on your own or buy two...

I was quite impressed my the portion size and quickness of the staff.. (It was not busy when I went there)
My order: falafel wrap and you will see a lot of people have posted that same falafel... so you can guess it is quite popular ordered menu here 😋... their staff recommended me the same..
Taste: good 👍.. I approve that it could become best tasting falafel wrap in Montreal... The bread was soft, the falafel were crispy and taking and other sauces were consistent through with balanced veggies.
Portion size: really well placed with price.. I was somewhat hungry..but it really filled me well..
Ambience: I will give 7/10.. lighting could be better...
Recommendation Level: 8/10
