The Japanese restaurant we regularly visit was packed so we came to Ora sushi but will not be returning. Service: Terribly lacking When we went in the server (lady with pony tail and glasses) just looked up from the bussing station and didn't bother addressing us at all. The place was emptied so we seated ourselves. There were no other tables, yet she didn't bring us any water nor come to take our order for 20 mins until we called out to her, then she acknowledged us but continued to organize empty take out boxes/folding bags and came over 15 mins later stating she was ready. We were quite ready, to walk out the door from being ignored. When the food came, instead of placing it on the table, she would hover it and wait for us to understand she is passing it to us and have us to take the dish and set it on the table ourselves. There were no refills of water and whenever we asked for anything, it would take her awhile to bring it. When other tables started coming in, another server came out to help, which was much more friendly and competent. Hopefully the restaurant would be able to properly train the first server to up their game. Food: Edible but low quality The sashimi still had fish bones. Food portions are very small, almost half the size we'd get at the other restaurant but prices were par to other places. In general it was an unpleasant experience, there would be a lot for this restaurant to work on.

Nestled in the charming neighbourhood of Steveston, this cute little Japanese restaurant is a delightful gem for lovers of Japanese cuisine. The ambiance is warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed dining experience. One of the standout features of this restaurant is its commitment to serving fresh, high-quality ingredients, particularly evident in their sashimi offerings. The sashimi here is incredibly fresh, bursting with natural flavours that highlight the quality of the seafood. Their wild salmon is an absolute must try! Succulent, richly flavoured, and expertly sliced to perfection. It's evident that great care goes into selecting and preparing each piece, ensuring a delectable bite every time. In addition to the outstanding food, the prices are reasonable, making it an excellent choice for both casual lunches and special dinners. The menu offers a diverse range of options, catering to both traditional tastes and those seeking something a bit different. Overall, this Japanese restaurant in Steveston is a fantastic spot to enjoy delicious, fresh sashimi and more. Whether you're a local or just visiting, it's worth stopping by to savour their wild salmon and experience the genuine hospitality and quality that set this place apart.

Update: February 20, 2023. We came back to give it another go. They've improved substantially since my last visit. I heard that the chef from Mega Sushi has allegedly moved to this restaurant, which is a very good thing. I ordered the Sashimi and Sushi bento. 🍣 the food was excellent and fresh. The chicken karaage was nicely seasoned. The sashimi tasted fresh. The salmon roll had a beautiful mayo Sriracha topping which added to a wonderful tasting roll. The house salad was fresh and nice dressing. The service is always great here and they are attentive. I had to share my meal with my son who ordered tuna sashimi which came on a bed of ice 🧊 and apparently was very fresh as well. My wife ordered the agedashi tofu, a California roll and miso soup. I'm so glad we came back given our last visit was not pleasant. The new chef has revived this restaurant and I'd love to come back to try the Ora tower. Thank you for the experience. NB: Went back again and had the Ora tower and was so very pleased. Unlike the tower from the other restaurants.

If I could leave zero stars I would. We have ordered delivery for them before and the food was mediocre. My husband wanted sushi and we were in Steveston Village so we went in. Yesterday, Saturday Nov 25. It was busy, and there were a few dirty tables. The waitress shoved us in a tiny corner table, telling us it was a tight squeeze. The next family that walked in right behind us, was seated nicely at a large table in the middle middle of the restaurant. After 15 minutes of sitting there, with no service, the middle aged server ran over. We ordered everything all at once. We never received our green tea, and she proceeded to bring dishes to the table that we didn’t order. I explained to her. We did not order tempura. We did not order edamame, and she argued with me and said we did, and slammed the edamame down on the table. She brought over another roll that we did not order. I told her, we did not order this. She was frustrated and left it on the table. She did, however take the tempura and deliver it to the table two down from us. So obviously, she had made a mistake. I have a prawn allergy and ordered a deep-fried California roll. My husband ordered a dynamite roll which has prawns. I told her of my allergy. My husband never got his dynamite roll. She brought over a deep-fried dynamite roll and put it in front of me. I said, are you sure this is a California roll? She said yes. And walked off. Thank God I looked through the roll…. Otherwise I would’ve gone into anaphylactic shock. After waiting about another 20 minutes for the Server to return to let her know of the error, she didn’t come to the table. At this point, we have been sitting in the restaurant for two hours. I try to explain the error to her after I walked up to the till where she was standing, and she Was increasingly frustrated with me, insisting that I had made a mistake. Pretty sure I don’t order prawns when they could kill me. We finally got our bill. A younger Server, who was quite lovely and very apologetic, brought it over. The older Server never returned to speak to us. The young girl was embarrassed and very kind. I thanked her for being kind And professional. Our bill was exactly what we had ordered, Although we didn’t receive all our items. We paid and left. I also have come to learn that on their website, they advertise that they support wigs for kids. These are new owners. They took a bunch of money that was supposed to go towards wigs for kids and kept it. Wigs for kids never received the money from the new owners, and they are falsely advertising. Absolutely terrible business. Terrible service. The owner should be embarrassed - this is coming from someone who has worked in the service industry...

Perfectly edible food for the most part, and adequate enough staff, but overall a vastly inferior dining experience. In roughly twenty years of enjoying Asian food in the lower mainland, it stands out to me as one of only two times I've demanded compensation for a poor experience, which I very much dislike doing. I ordered the takoyaki, which might have tasted decent except it arrived very much cool - nearly cold - on the inside (when takoyaki is often infamously molten hot to bite into). They were the smallest and most modestly dressed takoyaki I've ever had, with an unusually dense and eggy batter that (again) was actually cool on the inside. Often takoyaki has a number of morsels stuffed on the inside - some veg along with the bite of octopus - but I literally had to pick the ball apart to check there was anything at all on the inside, because I honestly wasn't certain. Also, the takoyaki clearly wasn't made in the traditional manner or using the traditional batter - it seemed to have been frozen and baked or fried with a coating of breadcrumbs rather than made as proper takoyaki (first for all, it wasn't round). The manager was reasonable enough to comp the dish, but it doesn't excuse how surprisingly bad it was. ((The second of two bad experiences was when a patron vomitted directly beside me at a different sushi restaurant and for the entire hour we were there, was never cleaned up.))

Many Asian restaurants (not just other sushi places) offer complimentary tea, but this one did not seem to, which was disappointing - it's the first Asian restaurant I've been to in the lower mainland which has not. We've eaten at many sushi places of varying quality, quantity, and price, and this one seemed a poor balance of mediocre quality AND some of the smallest portions I've seen for the price. If the quality or quantity were improved, OR the prices were more modest, it would be much more appropriate. For instance, I was shocked to find what looked and tasted like storebought sweet Thai chili sauce (you know - the kind that tastes a lot like McDonald's sweet and sour sauce, but with little red flakes in it... which is also not at all authentically Thai, either) on the deep-fried dynamite roll. Otherwise, the rolls seems small and strangely flavourless, but decent enough - just on the mediocre/"meh" side of the scale.

Very surprised at what was one of my poorest sushi experiences I've had - it felt more like ready-made storebought sushi, or sushi you might get from a mall, but at twice the price, which is a shame as the place and staff seemed nice. Perhaps it was just a bad experience, but I'm sorry to say that I would not...
