Sunday brunch at this breakfast & happy-hour place began with meeting with a couple of fairly young & in-experienced servers standing at the patio. It was a boy and a girl. The girl was wearing heavy, sparkly makeup and she was helpful as she pointed me to the correct direction.
Their menus are interesting, they have a number of seafood toppings for waffles and bennies, a few chowder options, fried chicken on waffles, garden salad, beef, French toast, as well as a great selection of cocktails.
We were able to move to the round wooden table near the window in the front to soak in the morning sunshine. The move from the last table next to the kitchen to the brighter side of the cafe was a plus. They manage to set up a long table for a birthday gathering in the middle of the cafe, and there are at least 6 tables of various sizes around.
Our order included: (1) Granny’s Chowder $12.99 - the sourdough bowl was roughly 15cm in diameter. Inside the bowl, the chowder was creamy and reminded me of Campbell. Would be nice if portion is more generous. We noted a sour aftertaste in the soup that resembles sourdough.
(2) Smoked Salmon Egg Benedict $18.99 - 2 Egg Bennies served on focaccia. I like the focaccia as it was lightly drizzled with olive oil and basil and it is warm. The amount of white on the soft-boiled egg seemed to be half of what a normal egg would have. So it’s a little smaller than what I had expected. The Hollandaise was great. The hash brown was crunchy and hot. Nice plating.
(3) Garden Waffle $12.99 - The colour of the waffle was on the brown side but the taste was good. It had a crispy outside and a soft cake-like inside. The veggies tasted fresh. I like the fact that baby bean sprout was used.
Service- not bad on a Sunday morning. Coffee was quickly refilled. Food was ready in a reasonable time. The lady who cleared our plates offered new clean cutlery to us. Going back to the young servers standing outside, they were not occupied most of the time. The other 2-3 servers helped refilling coffee and bringing food to tables.
Bathroom- The ladies bathroom was clean, but the toilet seat slipped. It was due to loose hinge bolts. The hinges need to be bolted down properly. Hope they will fix it as it could take an unsuspecting user by surprise.
Spent $25 per person after 15% tips.
Not sure if I would return as it was a tight space and they...

We stopped by here for brunch and although they do not accept reservations on the weekend, we arrived around 12:45P and there was a table readily available.
Every item we tried was indicated as their "Best Sellers" with this emoji; 😍.
Items we ordered to share;
GRANNY'S CHOWDER There was a handful of clams in the chowder. Overall flavor was good and was served in a bread bowl. In my personal opinion, I feel like you lose portion amounts when a chowder is served in a bread bowl. Still good.
BREAKFAST PAELLA This paella had Bavarian sausage, veggies, served with a sunny side up egg & a bed of fresh salad. The flavor was very tomato-y, something I'm not accustomed to when eating paella, so that was a bit new to me. The presentation was very nice, it was served on a wooden paddle and came with toasted bread & yogurt. Unsure if it was my fave dish.
FRIED CHICKEN & WAFFLES This was probably my favorite dish! The chicken was well season and so juicy. Cooked to perfection. The dish is served on a soft waffle (a little sweet in my opinion), poached egg topped with fresh salad, hollandaise sauce & syrup. I asked for the sauces to be on the side (this is just a personal preference).
ROSE TEA LATTE The drink was good, nothing extremely special, but presentation was very pretty!
MIMOSA They only have one flavor, which is orange. I think this drink lacked alcohol, you could barely taste the alcohol.
Presentation: Pretty Food: Overall it was decent and I would like to come back and try their other menu items. Service: Good Parking: If you're lucky you may get a spot nearby. But in general, Steveston is just a busy area. Reservations: Yes, but not...
Read moreAnother disappointment in Steveston. We decided to splurge on this lunch for 2. It sounded lovely on the menu. In real time, it was a huge letdown. We were told they made their own rosti potatoes, as you can see it tasted and looks like the potato patties in the frozen food section, the only decent part was the smoked salmon piece and cream cheese on top. It also came with waffles and chicken. The waffles were not even a complete waffle, they only put in a small amount of batter, giving us a tiny part of a waffle and an over cooked small chicken cutlet that was cut in half for each of us, approximately 2 ounces each, it was so crispy and hard I could not eat it, I could barely cut off a piece to taste! I cut into my soft cooked eggs Benedict, it was hard cooked. The waiter came by and saw it. He immediately said he would bring another one before I could even comment. Several minutes later, he brought an egg in a tiny bowl by itself with water in the bottom and no hollandaise on top, nothing. Not the way to replace their error. The tiny cup of clam chowder was thin, tasteless, and had none of the usual filling chowder elements, basically only the decorations on top. I am so glad I did not order it in the sourdough bread bowl. For the crazy price we paid for this, we should have received better quality food and full sizes, a full waffle each, a complete chicken thigh or equivalent, the rosti potatoes described in the menu, a savory chowder and a proper eggs Benedict each. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The food,...
