Cineplex Cinemas Saint John — Local services in Saint John

Had a horrible experience last nite! Had a date night with the wife and missed over half an hour of the movie. The first time I went out to get seasoning for our old stale popcorn that was supposed to be layered and wasn't and waited in line for almost 20 mins with only 5 ppl ahead of me. Only one cash was open but 4 other employees were behind the counter cleaning. I get that the cleaning needs to get done so employees can go home at a decent time but if that's such an issue then don't have movies playing until after midnight. Then went out a second time while there was still an hr left of the movie to get us a cpl more drinks and they inform me that they are closed. When I worked there when I was 16 or 17 we had to keep one register open for that exact reason. So instead I went to the over priced vending machines which were near empty and to top it off they wouldn't accept my money or my bank card. Even the manager couldn't get it to work after restarting them. With that said I went back into the theatre with a sour taste in my mouth and even though the manager went and got us a cpl fountain drinks which he could have done to begin with I had already missed approx 40 mins of a 2 hr movie. The manager never even so much as offered a coupon or anything for all this bs. This is very upsetting to me considering how overpriced it is to go to a movie in theatres these days. Sadly this is the only movie theatre in the city, but it tends to often be a miss. I’ve lost count of the amount of times a Cineplex was advertised to get a movie or an event then the Saint John location doesn’t get it. For example, last year Moncton played a couple classic movies over a weekend. Went to the SJ theatre and was told they weren’t getting them. I believe it was Christmas time and Moncton was playing some Christmas classics. As I said things like this happen frequently, and I’ve lost count of examples I can include. The most recent example was that they didn’t get the new Kevin Smith movie here, Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot. Here’s what’s ironic about that:

-Kevin Smith actually went to the city’s local government about filming part of the movie here -The cineplex pre show aired an interview with Kevin Smith and advertised his movie. Which isn’t even playing here.

Seats in the AVX theatre are often broken. Granted the two or three times this has happened, they’ve given me new seats. Still an inconvenience though to happen even once let alone multiple times.

The theatres are always messy. Whether it’s dried up sticky pop on the floor, garbage in the cup holder or garbage on the floors. I’m convinced the people who’s job it is to clean up the theatres just socialize in there because they are never clean.

Was not impressed with the lack of cleanliness. Floor was covered in spilled pop and popcorn. My feet were sticky still out in the main lobby as it was so bad we couldn'tsit in our assigned seats until it was cleaned. Took staff almost 20 minutes to send someone with a broken bucket. Had to go three times for assistance and nearly walk out and ask to use their swiffer to clean the spot myself. That was when the guy working tickets told us that the cleaner had gone in finally. I actually felt the need to ask for their cleaning tools to help salvage my New Year plans. And staff during the situation was only making excuses and saying they would try to get someone to clean it before the movie and when we were leaving one of the staff became very abrupt and started a yelling match with my wife. The poor guy that came to clean the spot had a broken wringer on his bucket (maybe explains why the floor was sticky still as he didn't have the tools in working order). Movie was great thankfully to help salvage the evening but almost had to leave due to the lack of proper cleanliness of the floors (I expected the traditional light tackiness but not like a teenage boy after finding his father's "special"...
