It's okay for Vancouver the bakery department is terrible the food is just okay it's pretty decent for a supermarket the service is not very good people that work there are not very nice and don't know what they're doing and every friend we had that worked in that store gets transferred regularly so it's a store full of strangers and nothing was on sale for Christmas no fish no meat nothing. it's Vancouver not New York.
I went in there today and they had 5 small shrimp on sale for $10. I don't know what happened they moved the new manager in and all of sudden nothing is on sale everything is more expensive they used to have specials in the meat department I spoke with the butcher he told me they're not allowed to mark anything down anymore, he said they were told when it's about to go just throw it in the garbage I said why don't they donate the food to the poor there are so many hungry people and Vancouver they could use it and he said the manager told him we don't want any homeless people getting sick and suing us I said how much food do you throwing out and he said about a thousand pounds. The employees who are my friends all seem miserable I heard today that the big beautiful Save-On-Foods on Cambie Street is closing and moving to the old Safeway location in City Square and this store must be losing money because it is outrageous that nothing is on sale anymore O A few items are on sale 9.79 marked down to 9.69 I mean one or 2% off it's almost insulting. I used to get the scraps for my neighbor's service dog from the cooked food department and there was a big piece of fat there I said can I have that for the dog and they said no they'll get fired if they give me that and I said but you're throwing out a thousand pounds of good food every single week and what are you going to do with a piece of gristle other than give it to a dog he said we're going to cook it in our meat pie. I used to get a slice of cake for 399 then it was 499 now it's 599 and they don't even slice up the cakes when they've been there awhile they just throw them in the garbage. I tasted the roast beef today from the $50 a pound wagyu beef that they made and it was bad and I told the girl and I said why don't you taste it she goes no and then the minute I walked away somebody came up and they were ready to serve it I told the manager of the store he said he would look into it I wish they'd make up their mind they're throwing out a thousand pounds a week of good food and then they're charging outrageous prices to serve bad food. We have shopped here for 5 days a week since the day the store opened and lately I've been going to the Save-On-Foods on Cambie Street but now that that's closing I am going to have to shop elsewhere. Every one of my neighbors who used to shop there has noticed the same thing and I would say that almost all of them don't go there anymore and they are all equally outraged by what's going on. They have the nicest people working at that store were friends with all of them but they can't do anything about it and I can't continue to shop there this is...
Read more2nd Dec 2021 at 12:55 ( I paid ) I had the worse service at the restaurant. Their line up is so not understandable, I stand up in front of the middle display to pick the chicken quesadilla, and chicken butter samosa. That took me around 20 mins to get served though I had two friends with me we arrived at the same time and they finish way earlier than me. I started talk with the lady from the staff and she started screaming that she is very busy and alone, and kept finishing the orders of the people who came after me!!! Finally I got helped from her and she asked me if I want my order toasted then she gave me a little paper, I understood that I have to pay using that little paper. I line up again to pay my order, another lady took that paper and asked me to pay, then she kept silent, I asked her where is my food and she said you have to wait until we call you on the other side ( how would I know that???!!!) also I have a reward card and she didn’t offer to scan my card. I waited in the area close to the other cash, the cashier asked if I wanted something, I said: I am waiting for my food, he asked me if I wanted the food now!!!!! Their food is not the best but not bad as fast meal. Please try to avoid the busy lunch time as they are not well organized at that time. BTW, I like the urban fare supermarket but that was my experience with restaurant at a busy time. —————————————- Update: I went many times later and the service was good with no delays so I have to raise up the ratings from 2...
Read moreUrbanfare is our neighbourhood grocery store and its quite posh. It's where I saw my first square watermelon and the price was a penny shy of a C note. While we don't do our primary shopping for weekly groceries here we do buy certain staples for its proximity and convenience. We purchase organic Avalon milk and Olympic yogurt as the prices are comparable at other grocers. San Pellegrino sparkling water, truffle hummus, fresh fruits and veggies in season, as they are often on weekly special. I do miss the fall displays of brussel sprout stalks. We often splurge on the organic bagged lemons and gourmet ice cream as they are our fridge & freezer staples. The manager here is super friendly and gets five stars for customer service as is Amy who asks about the well being of our family and alerts us on the weekly specials ;). I can't quite give the 5th star because on several occassions the advertised sale prices are not registered at the cashier and it makes me feel like the penny pinching police when I have to point it out and take someone to the shelf. The upper level has a cafe/cafeteria style dining space with a selection of hot prepared foods that is popular with the local...
