I guess some people are simply spoiled for choice in this city, I can't understand anything less than 5 stars for this establishment.
Just had one of the most amazing 3-course meals where there was nothing bad that could be said about any of it.
It was quite slow (though I can't understand why), our server was not only quick and responsive with suggestions and detailed explanations of menu items, as well as beverage options, the level of attention was perfect; not intrusive and not neglectful.
We had an order of the BBQ wings: amazing. Their sauce has a deliciously mysterious smokiness to it that sets it well above basic wing flavour (was that cumin?)
I had the steelhead salmon entree, and again, how could anyone say anything negative about this? It comes with broccolini grilled to perfection, roasted baby potatoes and a nice portion of beets. There's a butternut squash sauce that comes with it, and compliments the salmon perfectly. All the while, I'm enjoying all of this accompanied by a pint of the soon to be world famous Granville Island Lions Winter Ale. How do you top that? The missus had the frutti de mari. A pasta dish jazzed up with shrimp, mussels, salmon and a light sauce, and it absolutely melted in the mouth. We were full at this point but everything was so good, we indulged ourselves at the risk of discomfort to partake in the dessert. Well. Discomfort or no, they were also sublime. Chocolate pate, with strawberry slices and raspberry sorbet, and the caramel apple vol au vent. This is apple crisp to the nth degree. And to top it all off, the server and the bartender whipped up a coffee with Bailey's with full dressing: orange wheel, cinnamon stick, whipped cream, sugar rim, and chocolate shavings. I felt like a rock star.
Everyone deserves to be treated to an experience like this, at LEAST once in their lifetime.
Thanks so much to Deb, and her crew, everything...
Read moreWe went for a covid friendly Christmas Eve dinne, fully aware there was a Christmas Dinner menu, and there was supposed to be a shortened regular menu. When we got there we were only given the Christmas Dinner menu so we figured they were only offering this for the night even though I was pretty sure I read that they had a shortened menu as well.
We ordered our drinks, then our food from the holiday dinner menu, 10 minutes goes by and the server (who was lovely by the way, it was definitely not their fault) comes back to tell us we aren't able to order any drinks outside of the small set holiday drink list. I've honestly never heard of this before! We have no kids so go out pretty often for holidays and was a bit surprised by it! My husband had ordered one of the easiest drinks (essentially just shaken gin with a lemon twist). The manager said essentially too bad, it's how it is even though no where does it say ANYWHERE that they were doing this (I went through the reservation site, and their website and social), and we went out that night to have a few and enjoy our night! The drinks on the set drink list were of no interest to my husband as they were all sweet. The manager said that because it was so busy (there was roughly 6 tables and we were the only ones really drinking) they would be sticking to this drink menu.
The food was average, and the Holiday Menu was pricey, so found out after talking to the manager that there was another menu but we hadn't received it.
Overall I wasn't super happy with my experience there, and don't think I'd go back since there are so many great options...
Read moreFirst of all, I'm working in hospitality for over 20 years. Recently at very high level and I don't like to write bad reviews, but I have to. Food absolutely great, fast, beautiful, cheap. Breakfast & Dinner.
Now we are hitting the bottom point, and that's the service. On the 10th & 11th March breakfast service perfect. 12th March absolutely catastrophic, dirty tables all around dining area. After order I got faster my meal order that even glass of water, I had to ask for cutlery as well.
Nobody checked on me ever, had to go to pay to the servers area and interrupt their chit-chat. After probably 10 years I didn't even leave a tip.
Evening I just stopped by for couple drinks and snack, as I was lazy to go anywhere else from my hotel. Absolutely empty restaurant around peak dinner time, bored staff, speaking about their overtime, no money and personal issues. I was alone in the restaurant for at least 15 minutes without any staff. Just saw 3 couples waiting by the door and waiting to be seated. They left after 5 minutes, because nobody approached them.
I loved the hotel, but the restaurant is just a soulless place with awesome kitchen, ruined by the front of the house staff.
Go to the Marriot next door and check how the perfect...
