Canadian Embassy — Local services in Beijing

I am a Canadian citizen originally from China. My parents submitted their visitor visa application in October 2023, and it has been almost six months since then (as of 2024-04-25). According to Web form, our application is still not in process and remains in queue for review. However, a friend of mine submitted the same type of application in December 2023 and received approval within 20 days. We are puzzled by this discrepancy. Despite the official processing time on the IRCC portal being reduced to 34 days(as of 2024-04-16) for applications submitted outside of Canada (applying from China), our application seems to be taking an unusually long time. Given the fact that my parents are elderly, we are deeply concerned about this delay as it has significantly impacted our travel plans. Hello, I am writing this Google review about me and my wife's visitor visa application. The application was submitted on Oct 11th,2022 and Biometrics completed on Oct 14th,2022; it's been 124 days since our fingerprints were completed. The application has exceeded normal processing times shown on IRCC's website. My wife and I plan to visit our son in Canada in April to celebrate his birthday due to his current mental health condition, we haven't seen our son for 3 years and he needs us to come over.
