Arbela — Restaurant in Paris

When I booked the restaurant, the available times were open at every 15 mins. So I booked a table at 19:00 with CB deposit. However, the staff called me on the day of the reservation to confirm and added that we would need to leave the restaurant by 21:00 because they had 2 services. The person said no and they are fully booked that night. Finally we came, ordered 2 bottles of wine and a few tapas which were mediocre. By 20:40 we still had half a planche left and asked if we can order a 3rd bottle of wine (there were still 3 empty tables at the restaurant). She said no and offered to pack up our remaining food to go. Finally at 21h we were urged pay and leave. Les plats sont excellents, sains et avec beaucoup de saveurs. Déco sympa, ambiance chaleureuse. Malheureusement nous avons été déçu du service. Nous avions réservé avec une amie au service de 21h, nous avons été servi à …22h. Pas de proposition de boisson en attendant. Nous n’avions rien dit car nous avions remarqué que la serveuse était toute seule pour la salle (une vingtaine de pers) et nous n’étions pas pressées. Une fois la commande passée nous avons été servi très rapidement. À 23h la serveuse nous annonce qu’elle aurait dû fermer à 22h30, mon amie n’ayant pas fini, elle lui dit qu’elle peut finir sans se presser mais souhaitait quand même l’en informer (ça ne te donne plus vraiment envie de prendre ton temps !) et que je cite « nous n’aurons pas de dessert ». On lui rappelle qu’on a été servi avec une heure de « retard », que nous avions conscience qu’elle était seule, que nous ne nous sommes pas plaintes et que nous ne pensions pas que le resto (un samedi soir, dans un quartier très animé de Paris) fermé tôt. Avec empathie on suggère qu’embaucher une 2ème personne serait sûrement plus confortable et que cela permettrait d’être à la hauteur de la prestation de service que nous attendons pour un restaurant…d’autant plus tenu par un chef de notoriété. Et là s’en est suivi des justifications et réponses à tout (elle savait très bien faire son métier, elle savait très bien gérer, c’était aux clients de s’informer des horaires et de manger dans les temps…etc), parfois avec un ton sur la défensive durant 10min. Notre empathie n’a donc pas été bien accepté et nous n’avons pas apprécié la fin du repas. En voyant la carte nous nous somme dit « on reviendra on veut tout tester » en partant malheureusement nous avions quelque peu changer d’avis. For a place that had tables available on Friday afternoon for Friday night, to behave as badly as they did about the reservation, about flexibility, to refuse to confirm if we had a seated spot, to have a completely uncaring service when we were there… to bring the bill to the table before we had finished eating and well before the 9 pm end of seating, to then bring the card machine to the table as well before we had finished food or drink… all this for food that was at best, average, and for a space that was nice but nothing exceptional for Paris… entirely...
