I love Paris. I've often heard the saying: Paris would be great if it were not for the Parisians. I've found that to be generally not true at all. Parisians are cool by and large.
If you want to experience the utmost rude, smug, and condescending behavior, please visit this shop.
We walked in thinking the front of the store looked cool. They had a cute frenchie in the window. We looked around. I went into the back and checked out the selection of shoes. They had some very expensive and metrosexual looking shoes that I was kind of into. As I was checking them out, the backroom caught my eye.
There was an artistic display with a whole bunch of TV sets mounted into it. I liked it, and like a typical tourist I bust out my phone and decided to take a picture. As I was about to snap a shot, this 60 year old dragon lady came up to me and started getting in my face. It was clear she didn't want me to take a picture, which is fine, and I quickly put my phone away saying "oh sorry!" Then she started yammering away in French to me. She slowly realized that I didn't speak French and she quickly switched to English, gleefully lecturing me "it's a common courtesy to ask for permission before...." STOP RIGHT THERE LADY!!! I quickly put up my hands in a big X and yelled "NO!" In a loud voice. I walked away as she continued to try to lecture me on proper shop etiquette. I rushed out, grabbed the person I was with (she was about to buy something) , and left the store immediately.
Look. If you don't want me to take photos. That's fine. Ask me to not take photos. I'd be perfectly cool with that, but don't try to lecture me about etiquette you wrinkled old HAG.
Let me explain to you how the world works now lady since you are so ancient you obviously do not know. First off, if I wanted to be sly about taking photos, I can do it very easily and you would never in a million years know. Secondly, in the world of social media, you should want people taking photos of your place so we can share them on Facebook, Instagram, tumblr and the many other social media outlets we are all a part of. It's an intelligent business practice as it brings you more business. No one really gives a hoot about your little wall of Tvs and no one is going to go and copy it. Get over yourself. There wasn't a soul in the shop at the time either so one would think they would have valued a little business.
This old hag cost the store a sale on a $400 pair of boots and who knows what the person I was with was going to buy. For the love of God, don't lecture your customers about proper etiquette when there is no such established etiquette in a store. Most places (the businesses run by savvy people who understand social media) are thrilled to have you take photos so they can do more business and let more people know how great their store is.
To the owner: this lady needs to go. She had black hair, deep set wrinkles on her face, and a surly attitude. No one asked us for help, but she was very quick to tell no photos and launch into a tirade on how I should conduct myself.
In the world of online retail and hundreds of other shops in he surrounding area, one would think a little bit of common sense and customer courtesy would be in order. This employee is a disaster for this business.
Normally I wouldn't go out of my way to write such a toxic and caustic review, but I'm a retail store owner myself, and when my employees suck as badly as this employee does, and cost me gross profit like this employee did, I want to know. FIRED! That's what I would do. No way would I let someone antagonistic like that work in my store. Never...
