Memorial site for the 1972 Olympic attack — Local services in Munich

A wonderful and moving memorial to the people who lost their lives during the Munich Massacre at the Munich Olympic Games in 1972. It sits on a hit that overlooks the Olympic Village where the hostage event took place. It is a covered memorial displaying a large video screen replaying the events of that horrific time in history. It also have information on the Israeli athletes who lost their lives and German police officer who lost his life. This memorial was officially unveiled on September 6, 2017 marking the 45th anniversary. We really enjoyed our visit and the amazing and detailed historical context provided by the memorial. For the first time the victims of the terrorist assault have faces and a history to read about at this newly opened (2017) memorial. Visiting it just one day after the official opening brought all the memories back that were happening in 1972 at the Munich Olympic Games. The architecture is unobtrusive, yet a remarkable cut-in of a small hill at the Olympiapark. You can‘t bypass without noticing it.
