Church in itself as a monument is worth seeing. I suggest it to everyone that is in the main city of zakynthos. My negative experience is related to an old lady that was apparently supervising the church premises when we visited it (my partner, my mother in law and our baby). Myself, I am a Greek national and my partner and her mother are Polish. When we entered the church this old lady thought apparently that we are all foreigners (I was speaking in polish as well to the rest of the group). So in two separate occasions I caught her swearing (in Greek) against my mother in law and my partner for no obvious reason. Nothing caused such a behaviour on our side. When I asked her in greek why she is behaving like that and what is her problem she was totally surprised (since she thought I was a foreigner and did not understand Greek) and mentioned that I did not hear well what she was saying (apparently I misheard twice) and everything was a misunderstanding. Really abnormal behaviour worthy of medical...
Read moreI would never leave a bad review for a church not only because I am a devoted Christian Orthodox myself but also out of respect. However, this time I have to do it. The caretakers of the church- both the lady and the man- are absolutely horrible. The way they look at the people visiting the church-especially the foreigners-is awful. What bothered me a lot was not only their comments and actions while we were there but also their looks when we were praying in front of the holy icons. I do not know if someone working for the Metropolis will read this but please take action. I have been in Zante multiple times and we face this every single time we visit this church. They are acting like we are trespassing their own private property. It’s not your...
Read moreThe church itself is beautiful and well worth seeing. My only point of criticism, which led to the poor rating, is a very unpleasant encounter with the warden. I was reading the English descriptions in the church when an older gentleman, the warden, came towards me shouting and repeatedly calling out "candle“. Although I signaled to him that I am not a Christian but have great respect for the place, he mumbled something in Greek and walked away. I couldn't understand his behavior and felt very uncomfortable. When leaving the church, I wanted to clarify what the problem was. However, he just kept shouting "candle." It was a very unpleasant experience and a shame for this...
