On top of the mountain is the castle. An old castle from the 1650s BC. It is a beautiful piece above the busy city. At the gate you pay 4€ per person to enter. At the beginning you can scan a QR code where you can read more information of the castle. It is a beautiful and peaceful piece of Zakynthos. Lots of greenery and left to its own devices which makes it beautiful. We were in Zakynthos when the tourist season had not yet started. It was by to very quiet and no queues anywhere. This place does open out of season and great for cooling off among the thick trees. There is another beautiful viewpoint here where you look over Zakynthos town. All in all, definitely a place to do in between visiting Zakynthos. If you like history then definitely one to admire.

The unique beauty of the castle dominated the Romans. In its time, the well-made constructions, despite being in ruins, surpassed what the Romans built to withstand decades of the harshness of temperature changes and those who inhabited that castle.

Mooi stukje geschiedenis op Zakynthos. Bij alle voormalig bouwwerken staan informatie bordjes. De uitzichten over Zakynthos stad zijn adembenemend mooi. Er is een klein parkeerplaatsje bij het kasteel en er is een toilet op het terrein. Bovenaan zit een café, maar dat was toen wij er waren gesloten.
