Think Twice Before You Book a Service – A Serious Security Warning
I am sharing this experience as a serious caution to others who are considering booking home services through platforms like UrbanClap (now known as Urban Company). My recent encounter has been deeply disturbing and could have ended much worse.
The Incident:
I had recently booked a service for A/C cleaning at my home. Two individuals arrived – a technician and a young helper, who seemed to be no more than 12–13 years old. This in itself raised a concern, as employing minors for such tasks is both illegal and unethical.
They started working on one of the air conditioners, and after completing that, they moved to another room to begin cleaning the second unit. During the process, some water spilled on the floor, and the technician instructed the young boy to go and clean the other bedroom.
Here’s where the situation took a turn for the worse. While my wife was closely monitoring the technician’s work, the young helper walked into the other bedroom unsupervised. He then opened the wardrobe and stole cash from a purse that was kept inside. My wife, being alone in the house and focused on the technician’s activity, didn’t realize what was happening in the other room.
They found a perfect opportunity — my wife distracted, alone at home, and them in control of the house layout and movements.
Aftermath:
Upon realizing that money was missing, we contacted the technician. They came back to our home to “discuss” the issue. However, as expected, since they were not caught red-handed, there was no way to prove the theft conclusively. After a prolonged and unproductive conversation, they left without taking responsibility.
I then contacted the customer support team of Urban Company, only to receive the standard response:
“We will look into the matter.”
Since then, no one has called back, no update has been provided, and there has been zero accountability from their end.
Concerns Beyond the Theft:
What’s even more terrifying is this: • A child was sent unsupervised into a private area of the home. • He could have done much worse — theft was just one possibility. • We shudder to think what might have happened if there was intent to cause harm, assault, or worse.
The very idea that a vulnerable family member could be at risk, all because of a service booking, is chilling.
Conclusion:
This could happen to anyone. Today it was us — tomorrow, it could be you. Please think twice before letting unknown individuals inside your home, even if they come from “verified platforms.” Not all vendors are reliable. Not all companies perform thorough background checks. And when something goes wrong, you may be left to fend for yourself, without support, justice, or compensation.
Final Note:
Urban Company may be a big name, but they rely on local third-party service providers, and they cannot always be trusted. And allowing underage workers to assist with in-home services is both illegal and dangerous.

Dear Urban Company Team,
I am writing to express my disappointment with the bathroom and kitchen cleaning services I booked through your platform on January 7th and 8th, 2025, respectively.
Bathroom Cleaning Service (January 7th, 2025):
The staff sent to my location did a miserable job, which I reported to your customer care team. After reviewing the photographs I provided, they offered a refund of ₹500. However, this refund was deducted from the payment for my kitchen cleaning service the next day.
Kitchen Cleaning Service (January 8th, 2025):
The staff member, Suraj Kumar, who arrived at my location around 12 pm, was inexperienced (only 5 months of experience) and incapable of performing the task. Despite having 9 hours to complete the job, he only managed to clean the fans, fridge, and three small kitchen cabinets. I had to assist him to finish even this minor task. The rest of the kitchen remained uncleaned.
Suraj Kumar requested me not to complain to the company and promised to finish the task the next day with additional help. However, he failed to follow through on his commitment and is now unreachable.
I have tried to contact your customer care team multiple times through the "Help" section, but I have received no response.
I am extremely disappointed with the service provided for both bookings and feel that Urban Company is more focused on making money than providing quality service to its customers. I hope you will take immediate action to address these issues and provide a suitable resolution.

I was requested by the his senior manager to cancel the other bathroom booking and rebook it for next day. Doing that I was paying INR 116 additional for no fault of mine, still I agreed. Now another person came today for my pending bathroom cleaning work without carryong any material, he just came to visit the place and he said that he can only clean the Toilet seat which is already clean. Through app I tried to raise complaints, and requested for a call to share the concern, even before stating my issue, the call center call got disconnected and there was no call back Moreover I received call asking for confirmation that he assigned worker has closed the work schedule stating I have cancelled my booking. Who is taking responsibility then? This is how Urban company works these days? No responsibility, charging money. Talking about deep cleaning and all and don't want to work to remove water stains. If you cannot work as you talk, then its time for you to close the company and do not harass customers who book your services and waste time and money. I have booked Urban company services.
