Liberty Wreck Dive — Local services in Kecamatan Kubu

Komang was originally recommended to me when I was in Bali 6 months ago. I ended up doing 3 dives that day, 2 on the Liberty Wreck and 1 at the Coral Garden.

As I found him to be a great dive buddy/guide, I made sure I engaged his services again last week. This trip I hired all gear other than mask and fins, though they are also available if required. You can dive either air or nitrox, and Komang can do Introductory dives if you’re not a qualified diver.

We met near the Puri Madha Dive Resort where my non-diving friends were able to hire the use of the pool and amenities while I dived. Komang also organised a guide for a friend who wished to try snorkelling (my friend doesn't swim very well).

Once again we did 2 dives on the Liberty Wreck, with a relatively easy beach entry (we held onto each other going into the water as the rocks can be a little wobbly). When we were chest high in the water we put on our fins and deflated our BCDs, making our very easy way to the wreck which sits between 2 and 27m depth.

This is an easy dive for those just beginning, and there is much to see above the 18m mark that Open Water divers can go to. For more advanced divers, it's a beautiful, leisurely dive. I suggest wearing gloves as the innocuous-looking Fireweed (that can sting like bull-ants) grows on the wreck, and is very easy to brush against if you’re not careful.

Komang pointed out many different creatures, and knowing how much I love green sea turtles he made sure not to rush my encounter with one of them.

Komang took his GoPro with us, and footage/photos taken by him are available for an extra charge (well worth it, he got some great footage of me!).
