SunnySicily — Local services in Giardini-Naxos

I came across Sunny Sicily by chance on TripAdvisor. After reading all the wonderful reviews, I decided to book several transfers & guides with them. This was one of the best decisions I made for my recent trip through Sicily.

The first trip was from Agrigento through Ragusa & Noto ending in Siracusa. The driver, Paolo was fantastic as was the Mercedes SUV he drove. We met our guide, Roberto for Ragusa and Noto, and he was also terrific.

We continued our trip using Sunny Sicily for several transfers, but had also booked other guides. When one guide cancelled, I called Marcello to ask if he could arrange a last minute transfer from Taormina to Palermo with a stop in Polizzi Generosa where my grandfather was born. I also asked if he could arrange to find out anything about my grandfather as he died before I was born and I had very little information about his family.

Marcello asked for the information I had, which I immediately sent, but he had less than a week to arrange this. He told me he did find a guide, Enrico who could do some research but time was limited. I cannot believe how much Enrico uncovered in such a short period of time. I was stunned, amazed and so happy to learn so much about my grandfather, his siblings, his father and where he lived. We waked through the city seeing his church and streets where he and his family lived. It was incredible. Enrico also translated the birth certificates for me. It was an unbelievable experience.

We saw so much of Sicily in this trip, and it was incredible, but I must say the highlight of the trip was visiting Polizzi Generosa. Sunny Sicily made this trip amazing for me. I would rate them with 10 stars if I could.

We booked the Montalbano tour at very short notice for six us. Claire was wonderful in the office and helped me organise everything. The day itself was brilliant and we got to see way more than I had hoped.

The car was clean, spacious and so very comfortable. My daughter who is prone to get travel sickness never once felt sick which is testimony to how skilful our driver was.

The real highlight was our driver Patrick. From his warm morning greetings outside our rented house to the goodbyes later than evening , he was an absolute gentleman.

Apart from his impeccable appearance, he was warm, funny and very informative about the sites and the history of Sicily. He shared stories from his life, kept us very entertained with Sicilian lore and was an absolute mine of information on the history of many of the areas.

He was attentive to both my elderly mother, my daughters and all our needs on the day trip from food to toilet breaks.

Sunny Sicily arranged an excellent local driver who took us to all the places used to film the television series Commissario Montalbano. It was a hassle free way to see a lot in one day and never have to worry about directions or parking. We ate gooey arancine at a place mostly frequented by locals at Ragusa Ibla, bought gritty Modica chocolate, and even took our photo inside the real restaurant used for the scenes where Montalbano takes his seaside lunches. Although our driver spoke little English, he played recordings with information about the specific places we visited while enroute. I do speak Italian and so I also got to learn about his life as a young musician and music producer and about his years growing up in town of Comiso.
