I visited twice in the 4 days I stayed in Taormina. The location is perfect as it's just off the main high street which means it's quieter and has a brilliant atmosphere. The pizzas are SO GOOD. The best I had all week in Sicily (which is why I went back, as I had a really rubbish pizza somewhere else the next day).
The first time I went for lunch there was only one staff member I could see and I could see he was on the phone and making pizzas. It was quiet (only 3 other tables occupied), but we waited 10 mins before I could get his attention, then it was another 10 mins before someone else turned up to take our order (perhaps they'd been on a break and only have two people on for the lunch shift?), so I ended up going inside to get our own drinks from the fridge cos we were so thirsty.
But the second time I went was early evening and there were about 8 waiting staff falling over eachother for brilliant hospitality. Service was impeccable and vv.attentive then. They all seemed to really enjoy working there and had a laugh together, which was really nice to see.
So I had both the worst service experience (purely based on waiting time, mind - he was a nice man) and the best, so on average have given that 3 stars.
I definitely recommend this place! Best pizza and so...
Read moreThe place where we stayed in Taormina recommended us to go to La Napoletana. I read the reviews on different websites before going there and thought we would be up for a treat.
Specially after the best pizza we had in Cefalù during our trip to Sicily, I had big expectations.
We arrived at La Napoletana and honestly, the staff was sooooo unfriendly, unprofessional and couldn't care less. Not a smile, you get the menu and they come back 2 minutes later to take your order.
I ordered what is...a very simple pizza: the 4 formaggi. You can't really miss it. Well...they did! It was like a cluster of gooey cheese all melted together, oily, like a big blurp that becomes all elastic after 5 minutes when the pizza gets cold. Talking about "plastic", the dough was very elastic and unpleasant. They rave about the produce they use on their menu but in reality, it all tastes like cheap ingredients. We ALL agreed that it was just terrible! In fact, we talked about how bad it is the whole time we were there!
We ordered white wine. The waiter brought it, left it on the table without pouring it into our glasses and left. Again no smile and in a robotic way. He had NOTHING to do. Is that so difficult to attend your table in a proper way?
Don't waste your time AND money at...
Read moreDuring my recent trip to Taormina, Sicily, I had the pleasure of dining at La Napoletana, and I can confidently say that I experienced the best pizza of my life there. Despite Italy's reputation as the land of pizza, I have often found myself disappointed with the offerings. However, La Napoletana exceeded all my expectations.
The use of fresh Sicilian ingredients combined with the perfectly crispy crust made for an unforgettable culinary experience. Each bite was a delightful blend of flavors that truly highlighted the quality and authenticity of the ingredients. The fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fragrant basil, and exquisite olive oil came together in perfect harmony.
What sets La Napoletana apart is their attention to detail and commitment to tradition. The pizza dough was cooked to perfection—crunchy on the outside and delightfully soft on the inside. This, paired with the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant, made my visit even more enjoyable.
If you find yourself in Taormina, La Napoletana is a must-visit. It's a place where you can truly savor the essence of Sicilian cuisine. Highly...
