Shiraitonotaki onsen — Local services in Beppu

Excellent local onsen, you can see Shiraito waterfall from its entrance! Only 3 private tubs. Entrance ¥1000 for 50 minutes for two people (if its one person same price, if it's more than 2 people ¥500 extra per person). You need to bring your own shampoos and towel. Operating hours 10:00 - 21:30, there is parking. You pay before you enter, if there is nobody just shout a greeting and somebody will come.

There is a small changing area which is next to the tub, almost connected so you need to draw the curtain while bathing not to slash there. There is a mirror and a shower head but only with cold water, washing up with hot water you can use the water from the onsen with a bucket and a stool. The tubs are small size and quite unique, a huge rock which is smoothly cut and carved into a tub. The two first rooms have the tub a bit elevated while the third room has it one with the ground. There are large windows just in front of the tub which allow a lot of natural light plus a nice view. The walls have bamboo and the floor is made of big stone tiles apart of the 3rd room which has proper walls and small tiles at the floor. The tub size is slightly bigger at the second room while the third room has more space around the tub.

The water is hazy with sulfur particles floating, because the source is very hot there is always cold water flowing in next to the hot water. You can control the cold water flow with a lever. If its too hot you can even stop the hot water flowing in by connecting the shaped pipe into the hot water pipe. Don't forget to leave the onsen as you found it (normal cold water flow and hot water flowing in).

One of the hidden gems of Beppu, with clean facilities, private tubs, excellent for a relaxing time, very recommended!

Amazing ! The place is a bit rustic but its what make it so authentic !! You get a private onsen for 50 minutes for 1000 yen. (NO soap, no towel so bring everything yourself). The area around the onsen feel like straight out of a movie with a small waterfall right next to it and steam coming out of all the other houses. Only two car can park but its quite accessible with a bus. The lady there was nice and straight to the point. I liked it. Truly one of the best thing I have done...

뒤에 시라이토 폭포가 있어서 시라이토노 타키 온천입니다. 주말에 갔는데 3실만실에 방이 하나쯤은 계속 남더라고요 50분 1000엔. 창문은 밖에서 훤히 보이는 구조라 약간 아찔한 스릴감이 있습니다.

정말 어마무시한 양의 유노하나가 침전되어있어서 유노하나에 대해 사람은 깜짝 놀랄지도.. 두번째 사진의 하얀 점이 모두 유노하나입니다. 손으로 뜰 수 있을 정도로 많아요.

겁나뜨거운 온천수는 가케나가시로 콸콸나오는데 파이프가 하나 기대어있어 잠시 멈추고 흘려보낼 수 있습니다. 옆의 여름임에도 겁나게 찬물은 산에서 흘러나오는 물이라고 써있는데 받아보니 검은 침전물이 꽤 섞여나옵니다. 그래서 탕에 흰색과 검은색 침전물이 같이 떠다닙니다.

아기있는 부부가 많이 오는 것 같습니다. 입구쪽 주인분 부르는 벨 옆에 보시면 아기 물놀이 장난감도 있고 머리끈도 팔고 화장대랑 드라이어도 하나 있습니다. 그러나 원천이 겁나 뜨겁고 비오는날이라 어른도 습도 온도에 쪄죽을 판에 옆방 들어오는 아기들이 엉엉울기 바빠서(아기들에겐 고문같겠죠..) 장난감을...
