We stayed at the ryokan for two nights. It’s absolutely the best decision we’ve made. ||While some people commented that it’s very difficult to locate, the hotel kindly reminder us the map code a few days before we arrived and we had no issue locating the hotel on the day we checked in.||The food was awesome. They deliberately made a different breakfast menu on our second day. That’s very kind and thoughtful of them. The dinner was very good too. I stayed at other more expensive Onsen ryokan in Kyūshū and the food was not as good as I expected. On the contrary, the food here was really delicious! We regretted not ordering dinner in the hotel for our first night (due to bad experience elsewhere).||The bed, while a mixed Japanese / western style bed, was super comfortable and I had such great sleep during the stay. The room was modernly designed with a traditional Japanese touch. Overall it’s very cozy and modern at the same time. You can find electric sockets in places you would expect - eg near your bed. There were a couple of little insects in our room (probably entered when we opened the main door), but that’s expected in rural area like this. The view from our room was beautiful too. We do agree with the paper thin wall comments by other visitors. We could hear people chatting next door but this wasn’t a huge minus for us. We stayed on the ground floor and fortunately we were not disturbed by any noise upstairs, unlike what other travellers commented. Staying on the ground floor also means you can skip the steps walking up to the first floor. We think we made the right choice overall :) ||Needless to say the private Onsen was superb. It’s indoor which means that we could still enjoy the Onsen while it rained heavily on the day of arrival. The public Onsen was like 2-3x the private Onsen. There is nothing attractive in the public Onsen. Facilities wise that’s not as good as some other Onsen ryokan (eg I couldn’t see any locker), but I don’t think it’s a big issue. I would prefer enjoying my in room Onsen anyway. ||The staff here all speak good English so there is no issue with communication. ||The hotel has a vending machine and there is no markup on price. Another good point to mention. ||I can find no flaws in this ryokan. I love this hotel so much and would love to visit again. We will definitely recommend friends and family to visit this ryokan if they want to visit beppu...

Read moreWonderful experience. Welcoming friendly and knowledgeable team running the facility. Was able to get by in a combination of English, (our extremely limited) Japanese, and google translate. They were helpful in recommending things to do in the area and called taxis for us.
Location: approx 15 minute taxi from Beppu station and that is the only mode possible unless you have a car. No busses or shuttle although we did discover a resort nearby that has a shuttle into town. However the remoteness along with the views over Beppu made the stay extremely enjoyable.
Facility: spacious, clean, and modern. Loved the in room private hot spring bath. Public bath was nice as well. Room well laid out and comfortable seating on the balcony. Tatami area probably takes more getting used to but was a good experience. Futons also was a new experience and comfortable enough, the super fluffy blanket was the best part of the bed. robes and slippers are provided for use around the property.
Meals: booked with breakfast and dinner one night. Everything was delicious! Dinner of Japanese Kaiseki included appetizer, sashimi ,soup, grilled food, steamed food, beef sukiyaki, rice, soup, pickled veggies, dessert. 7560 yen/pp. some sake and tea are included, we purchased additional :)
Highly recommend especially...
