I’m visiting Kyoto on holiday from New Zealand.

I messaged the salon directly on Instagram because I didn’t know which option to book on the website.

They promptly replied within minutes, answered my questions, suggested options and price. They were very accommodating and offered to book myself and my friend in for the same day. This exceeded our expectations.

The salon was very easy to find. Inside is clean and comfortable.

Nail technician Riko made me feel very welcome! She was patient with me (I don’t speak Japanese! So she used google translate) kind and efficient. Riko kept me informed throughout the process.

When I arrived she already had colour options ready, matching what I had messaged earlier on Instagram.

Visiting from the states and I popped in to MARIE NAILS across from my hotel in the morning to see if I could get an appointment later in the day and they were able to book me! Even though I didn’t really speak any Japanese we were able to use translator app and it worked well, they were very accommodating! I don’t get my nails done often and didn’t realize they could just do exactly the design I wanted, I was thinking they would need a few photos to see what they could do but she just had me air drop the photo of what I wanted and did it almost exactly. I was also able to specify I wanted a different nail color than the design and it was okay to let her know I wanted the color a little darker when she started applying the layers. So glad...

they have lots of coupons available online for first time customers when you are making the appointment. i'd recommend doing that on the hot pepper third party website listed here and using goog translate to help. it wasn't too hard.

i got old gel removed, new soft gel applied, and a crack in one of my nails fixed with designs on two nails (you have to choose from a group of 15 or so styles) for just shy of 4,000 yen. theres also many other configurations available.

the technician and i couldn't communicate verbally except for thank yous and ok's but it was easy enough.... its a no frills shop but very precise and all hand painting...
