Pros: Fantastic location. Almost all staff were very polite, friendly, and helpful. Comfortable (firm) beds. Cons: No food/room service. Air conditioning is unable to be controlled by guests. This was our main problem when staying. Guests do not control air conditioning in their own rooms - it is centrally controlled for each floor. So on night #1 we went to sleep with the cooling on, and awoke at 3am in a sweat as staff had switched it to heating. This is also handled inconsistently by different staff. The next night we requested the cooling in our room to remain on all night, and it did. Night #3 we assumed the cooling would be left on again, but yet again woke at 3am in a room like a sauna. This time I called reception and they explained that "lots of people" were using the heating so they could not switch it to cooling. Night #4 we again made the request for cooling to remain on, however this staff member said that while it was currently on cooling, if someone requested heating they would turn that on. We then requested that our window be unlocked (I assume it was locked as we were on the 9th floor) so we could at least get some cool air during the night, despite battling street noise. Had there been any other available hotels in Kyoto we would have moved, as sleepless nights aren't great before full days of sightseeing. Wouldn't stay here again because of this, but if room temperature isn't an issue for you then this place was great. Hotel Gran Ms needs to fix their advertising and website to reflect this issue, as I specifically check for availability of air conditioning in guest rooms prior to booking, and this was a major frustration on our trip. Can't imagine it would be very comfortable in summer if they turn the heating on because one person...
Read moreI stayed here with my family (my wife and 4-year old daughter) in November 2022 for 4 nights and we had a comfortable stay. If you are a tourist, then you will find this hotel pretty convenient for sightseeing. Location is perfect. It is pretty close to a bus and taxi stand and also the train station isn't very far from the hotel. You will find plenty of restaurants bakeries, coffee shops & convenience stores nearby. If you are Indian or like Indian food, then there is a good Indian restaurant just 50 meters away from the hotel. ||||We booked a superior twin room (with 2 single beds and 1 sofa) that is meant for 3 persons and it was spacious, especially if we compare it to the other hotels where we have stayed during our Japan trip. Most of the staff of the hotel is good. A special thanks to Mr. Sunil. He was really friendly & helpful. He helped me to transfer my luggage from the hotel to the other hotel in Osaka.||||Now, let's talk about the few negatives. There are many bakeries & coffee shops around the hotel, but it would be great if they could've offered the breakfast. Hotel doesn't have any restaurant, but it would be great if they can add it in near future especially for the breakfast. Another thing that I didn't like that on the day of checkout we were little and they charged a penalty. I guess we made it to the reception at 11:45 P.M and they asked us to pay JPY 1000 for that because the standard checkout time is 11:00 A.M. A 4-year kid was staying with us and that made the things slower than expected for us. I know as per the rules they were right, but it felt little odd because we have never experienced it any other hotel we have stayed so far. Anyways, we have a wonderful stay and we would love to...
Read moreAccess: The entrance is off a side street from the main road, it is signposted and easy to locate.||Staff: Friendly and multi-lingual, with 24/7 presence at reception.||Room: I was on the 4th floor and facing away from the main road. Compared to other hotels used during my trip this was the largest one and I was ready for a little more space - all be the hotel is just somewhere to wash and sleep! The bed was comfortable and nightwear was available from reception, along with toothbrushes/paste, razors, combs, etc. There were shutters on the window which were highly effective at keeping the daylight out and light switches for all were conveniently located by the bed. Two chairs and a coffee table, along with kettle, tea, and a fridge were provided. The room was clean and tidy, with fresh towels and the bin emptied daily and one main clean during my 4 night stay. I was solo occupancy of this room, had there been 2 of us, we would have had room to move!||Laundry facilities: There are 2x washing machines and 2x dryers on the second floor, I did not need to make use of them it would have been handy but I never found them available. I checked at different times in the morning and evening.||Hands free travel: The hotel arranged this for me, completing the form and making the process very easy. Undertake by 10am for next day delivery.||Location: Suited my needs perfectly, I knew I did not want to be by the main station, this was walking distance (for me, I like to walk and observe what’s going on around me) to many of the areas I wanted to explore. Numerous Metro and Train Stns within a few minutes walk for when I wanted to go further afield,...
