Food is super good, service is great and the ambience is so nice.
Came to this place twice in my two-week trip in Japan because how good the food was.
A friend who used to study at Kyoto Uni recommended me to this place when I asked him about local food. He said this is an obanzai place, one of Kyoto local foods.
The first time I came here it was 1 minute late after their closing time so the waitress politely told me that they cant take order anymore. But they have ready-made food in bento, so I bought that. I was sooooo amazed by the taste. The seasonings seems so simple but how come the food taste so good and match perfectly with each other?! This lead me to search on Wikipedia what is obanzai, and I became more amazed by the philosophy of obanzai making (look it up yourself :p)
So the second day in Kyoto I made sure I came early so I can dine in. I came alone so I sat at the bar and I could see how they prepared their food. Ordered the set menu and it didnt dissapoint, plus I ordered a bowl of eggplant which was part of today’s specials. The waitress who told me I was 1 minute late to their closing time noticed me and greeted me with smile, which was nice.
The veggies were so fresh, katau was delicious, seasonings were on point, the tofu skin is sooo soft and everything tasted like a good harmony in your mouth. Price is standard and I like their unique interior.
Definitely the highlight of my Kyoto trip. Will come again if I visit Japan again...
