The building is a registered tangible cultural property. Showa era / 1936 Reinforced concrete construction 3 stories above ground, 1 story below ground, building area 549㎡ 1 building 8-8 Yoshidaizumidonocho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto Registration date: 19980421 Japan-France Cultural Association The basic design is Mestrale, a disciple of Pele, an architect representing France in the 20th century. The curved surfaces of the key points give grace to the classicist skeleton created by the sophisticated pillars and eaves of the Pele style. It is built facing Higashioji-dori and forms a school district together with the architecture of Kyoto University. History 1927 Established Kansai Japanese-French Academy The Kansai Japan-France Academy is a base for exchange between Japan and France rooted in Kyoto, with the "Japan-France Cultural Association" chaired by the French ambassador as the mother's womb. In 1927, Kyoto was founded in Kujoyama, in the bosom of Higashiyama. The decisive role of Katsutaro Inabata Kansai Japanese-French Academy Katsutaro Inabata In preparation for the establishment of the Kansai Japanese-French Academy, it was Osaka Business, which had much higher industrial output than the Tokyo metropolitan area at that time, provided sufficient financial resources. Katsutaro Inabata, chairman of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a member of the House of Lords, studied abroad from Kyoto Prefecture to France as a boy and acquired dyeing techniques with success. At his request, a preparatory meeting for the establishment of the new hall was held on September 29, 1926. French ambassador Claudel attended and requested cooperation. It will open on October 22, 1927 in Kujoyama. Relocation decision Louis Marchand, the third director of the Kansai Japanese-French Academy Kujoyama is still inconvenient in terms of location, but you can imagine it at that time. It was said that "Kujoyama is the same as heaven, and it takes a little effort to climb, but it is really good to climb", but the third director, Louis Marchand, is in the current Yoshidaizumidonocho area around Kyoto Imperial University. Decide to move. The area of hope was already home to the Goethe Institute in Germany. No progress was made in acquiring the construction site. After resuming negotiations, saying, "If you don't lend it to Germany and lend it to France, it will be a problem." Succeeded. Later, the French government bought it. The new building he was on May 27, 1936. Katsutaro Inabata is the founder of Inabata & Co., a trading company in Osaka. A bust stands in the garden.

One of my new favorite places to eat! They not only have an amazing selection of over 4 different salads — a rarity in Japan, but they also have delicious-looking sandwiches and quiches. There’s also a wonderful mix of foreigners and Japanese folks. Finally, the salad was absolutely delicious and it came with a drink and bread for 1200円!
