Sammon Gate, Zenkōji temple — Local services in Nagano

This two story gate was built in the mid Edo period and I think it served as the main entrance to the Zenkoji temple complex as it has a plaque with the word "Zenkoji" written on it.

The Sanmon Gate is a historic gate that has welcomed many worshippers into the main hall since its construction in 1750 during the mid-Edo period. The gate is five bays, three doors, and two stories high, with a gabled, thatched roof, and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. 階段が、むしろ梯子レベルで幅が狭くて急なので脚が悪い方は要注意です。　私は膝が痛かったけどサポーターをして、なんとかゆっくり登りました。

階段や屋中の撮影は仏像や色んなものが展示されているので禁止ですが、屋外に出て見える外の景色に関しては撮影OKになってました。

ルートは本堂を背にして山門の左側に入り口があり、靴を脱いでビニール袋に入れて階段を５段くらい上がると踊り場にスタッフさんがいるのでチケットを見せます。 するとすぐに上に昇るはしご的な階段があります。手摺もあるし縄もぶら下がっているので登りやすい方をつかんであがります。

登りきると仏像がたくさん展示してあり、がんばって上がってきた甲斐があったな…とちょっと思いました。 屋中を見たら、屋外に出られるので、山門の外側を反時計回りにぐるっと歩きます。 道幅は人がすれ違うことができる広さがあるけど、抜かさずにみなさん前の人に続いて歩いてました。
