Kohyo JR Nara — Local services in Nara

A great supermarket near Nara Station that has everything from fresh produce to stationary and household items! I was quite amused by some of the English signs, such as the “More Christmas” signs near the meat section. :p (We went around Christmas time!)

Go near the end of the day and the ready-to-eat items will be marked down. We usually went here to get drinks or sandwiches—the egg sandwiches are so good! The fruit sandwiches with cream were also delicious and made a light dessert snack. They put a third bread slice in the middle sometimes, probably to even out the space inside.

There is a foreign currency exchange machine in the area near the bottom of the escalators, which is super convenient. At the cash registers, after they ring up your purchases, they will ask you if you would like a plastic bag for a small fee.
