Our visit to Waplus Nara Tea Ceremony and Calligraphy was a truly unforgettable cultural experience. My husband had the chance to dress as a samurai, while my daughter and I were dressed in beautiful kimonos – mine adorned with cherry blossoms, and hers a stunning turquoise floral pattern. We also had our hair styled beautifully, with delicate flowers carefully chosen by our daughter herself and tucked into our hairstyles, adding a magical touch to the entire look. We had the unique opportunity to prepare and enjoy matcha tea ourselves, after watching a graceful demonstration of the traditional tea ceremony. Following this, we practiced Japanese calligraphy, guided with patience and care, and were able to take home our written works as special souvenirs. The entire experience was thoughtfully curated and full of warmth. The team also helped us capture these precious moments in beautiful photos, making sure every detail was remembered. This was a wonderful and immersive encounter with Japanese culture, and we’re so grateful for the kindness, attention, and hospitality we received. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to connect with the elegance and beauty of Japanese tradition.

I had never experienced a tea ceremony or worn a kimono, even though I am Japanese. My American partner wanted to experience authentic Japanese culture, so I chose this place. They offer an English option, which allowed her to enjoy the entire course. We could choose our favorite kimono, and the staff helped us dress properly. Then, they explained the history of the tea ceremony, demonstrated how to prepare tea correctly, and guided us in making our own tea to enjoy. Taking pictures was allowed during the course, but videos were not permitted. After the ceremony, we had time to take photos inside the building. For an additional fee, you can also go outside wearing the kimono and explore Nara city until returning by 5 p.m. Both my partner and I really enjoyed the kimono and tea ceremony. I highly recommend this place if you have never worn a kimono or experienced a tea ceremony before.

My mom, my sister and me joined the tea ceremony with Instructor Ai and we enjoyed the tea making performance so much. I almost cried during the performance as it was very heartwarming and beautiful! Koto and Yuka (hopefully i got the names correctly) helped us getting dress and also did our hair beautifully! Their hospitality is awesome! They were very friendly, lovely and welcoming! Midori also helped us take these beautiful pictures!! I really recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience Japanese tea ceremony culture!!

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of experiencing an unforgettable traditional tea ceremony at Waplus in Nara, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were transported into a world of elegance and Japanese hospitality at its finest.

The experience began with my wife selecting a beautiful kimono from their extensive rental collection. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful, ensuring the perfect fit and style for her. Seeing her dressed in the traditional garment added an extra layer of authenticity and magic to our experience.

The tea ceremony itself was conducted with such grace and precision that we felt as though we were participating in a centuries-old ritual (which, in essence, we were!). Our tea master was not only skilled in the art of tea preparation but also excellent at explaining the significance of each movement and gesture, making the experience both educational and...

I can’t say enough about this place. So I picked this place for my special birthday which I chose to be in kimono (first time ever). I booked almost same day the full package including 90min photo session in Nara Deer Park. For such a package you have to book three days in advance to arrange for photographer however decided to visit Nara suddenly from Kyoto and based on the reviews I picked this place. They worked above and beyond to arrange everything for me on the requested time. I opted for formal kimono (it was humid in late September 29) however it was absolutely WORTH it. It was the best decision I made for my birthday. The photographer was so kind and professional. Definitely much cheaper to book through them instead of getting private session. Be aware there are two locations cuz I went to the wrong address first but it’s not too far (20min walking). I’ll add some photos on Yelp. Thank...
