Sometimes, all you need is a brief moment of calm—and Vie de France offers just that. Tucked right outside the station ticket gate, this café served as the perfect pause while I waited for a friend.

The Uji Matcha I ordered arrived swiftly, with a pleasingly bitter, unsweetened flavor that tasted refreshingly natural—no syrupy additives here. The space is bright, tidy, and cleverly designed for both solo visitors and those settling in with a laptop. Many seats are equipped with electrical outlets, making it a quiet haven for remote workers or travelers needing a recharge.

Though the café itself delivered, I do have one gripe: the building only has three female restrooms, resulting in an unexpected 15-minute wait. While this isn’t directly the café’s fault, it did take away from the ease of the experience.

Still, if you’re in the area and craving a quiet cup of matcha in a clean, well-organized space, this is a solid choice—especially for a station café.

Vie de France at Nara Station is a convenient bakery serving lots of baked goods, light meals, coffee and desserts. Their baked goods are made just right and perfect for a quick bite. There is limited space inside and tables are small, so this isn't the best place for large groups. If you're taking out, it's perfect. You can grab a tray and select all your baked goods, and they'll either bag them at the counter or put them on a plate depending whether you're eating in or taking out. Nice bakery located inside the station once you exit your train. They have a lot of pastries to choose from as well as smoothies and coffee. They have little Brazilian cheese breads so definitely get some of those. Staff is friendly and there's lots of seating available and some of the seating areas have USB charging.
