They say that the Japanese are polite. As somebody who has attempted to be more than respect, my experience in this place was abhorent. It was 9.30pm on a Saturday night, and we were unable to find a restaurant, so we nipped into the Lawsons to grab a sandwich and some sushi. Needs as must. There was what appeared to be a line for the checkout that 'went around the corner', but as it turned out, the line was direct and we 'queue jumped'. Oh, my giddy aunt. I thought they were going to call the police. There was raised voices, some unpleasant naming (I assume) and the whole palaver. I rest my head in shame for my inadvertant queue jump. However, the response was well not deserved and obviously aimed at a gaijin. My general thoughts are that there are some universal constants in this world and one of them is the littleman theory. Give someone who is at the bottom of the pecking order a bit of power, and they will abuse it. Had I been rude? It would seem so. To react in a way that was public shaming and nasty? Totally unnecessary. Just ask me to rejoin...
Read moreWhen a male clerk was helping a couple check out with me being the next, it suddenly dawned on him--perhaps advised by that paranoid couple who probably fantasized about someone peeping to steal their oh-so-precious boring secret or for God knows what reason--that I was not behind the the little dots that are something like 12 feet away from the cashier. So I was asked to step back from where I was standing, roughly 9 or 10 feet away, to 12. Alright, I complied with the obsession. Interestingly enough, within five minutes later another couple was in line but was not behind the little dots of the five-meter line. However, this time they were not reminded at all by the oh-so-responsible clerk to stand back. I witnessed that from the glass window. What a fair practice! Is that Lawson's business model? Asking people selectively to follow rules? Or is...
Read moreVery rude behaviour from the staff!! We were standing in line for our turn for billing and were asked to go behind some dotted line on the floor, in a very rude and harsh manner. Firstly, that dotted line was almost 5-10 feet away from the cashier. Secondly, it was very small in length and not even visible. Thirdly, the text written was in Japanese. So, anyone not knowing to read Japanese will not even know what is written on that dotted line. I suggest everyone to visit the 7-Eleven store instead, that is bang opposite this store and skip shopping in...
