GYUKATSU Kyoto Katsugyu, a hidden gem in food floors of one of the massive electronics stores in Akihabara, Tokyo. It's the kind of place that whispers culinary secrets to those who dare to venture off the beaten path.
The star of the show here is, without a doubt, the beef. Not just any beef, mind you, but high-quality cuts that would make a connoisseur weep with joy. Each slice is a tender symphony of flavors, a testament to the art of meat. And the stone grill? It's not just a cooking tool, it's an experience. Imagine, if you will, the sizzle of the meat as it hits the hot stone, the aroma wafting up and enveloping you in a warm, delicious hug. It's a sensory delight that's as satisfying as the meal itself.
The service, too, is something to write home about. The staff move with a precision and efficiency that's almost balletic. They're there when you need them, invisible when you don't, always with a smile and a helpful suggestion. It's the kind of service that makes you feel like a valued guest, not just another customer.
But let's address the elephant in the room - or rather, the lack of room. Yes, the place is a bit on the snug side. It's a cozy jigsaw puzzle of tables and chairs, a common trait among many Japanese eateries. It's part of the charm, really, a testament to the popularity of the place. But it does mean that it might not be the best fit for everyone. If you're in a wheelchair or have mobility issues, navigating the space could be a bit like trying to waltz in a broom closet.
But don't let that deter you. The staff are always ready to lend a helping hand, and the food is well worth the minor inconveniences. So, if you find yourself in Akihabara with a hankering for some top-notch beef, do give GYUKATSU Kyoto Katsugyu a visit. Just remember to bring your appetite - and maybe a sense of humor, too. After all, you'll be cooking your own steak.
In the grand tapestry of Tokyo's culinary scene, GYUKATSU Kyoto Katsugyu is a vibrant thread. It's a place where food is not just served, but celebrated. It's a place where each bite tells a story, a delicious narrative of high-quality beef, stone grills, and great service. It's a place that, despite its size, leaves a big impression. So go ahead, step out of the intensity of the electronics Mecca and into a Kyoto Beef lovers story. Your taste buds...

Food: Ordered the Wagyu and regular sirloin sets. It was an interesting experience to eat gyukatsu in different ways but the food itself was very underwhelming. It was definitely not worth the money.
Service: It was pretty much nonexistent. The server sat us down without giving us a menu. We had to ask her to remind her to give us a menu. She was constantly on her phone doing something and barely responding to the customers in general. It was an overall poor experience. It might as well be self-serve. Also, the server did not tel us that the credit card machine was not working. Thankfully, we had enough cash on us to pay the bill.
Atmosphere: It’s at the top of an electrical store aka mall food vibe so don’t...
Read moreThis place is simply amazing. I ordered the wagyu katsu, and every bite just melted in my mouth. They give you all sorts of side condiments for you to try so there ends up being like 7 different ways to eat it. It's an evolution of flavors that makes the whole experience more exciting. My server, Hikawa, was super friendly and showed me the different ways to eat it. There is also a little burner to cook your beef a little more if you want. It comes rare, but Hikawa showed me that if you cook it just slightly, it pairs very nicely with this sauce after you add some roasted sesame seeds. Although I usually like my steak rare, Hikawa was right as it rendered the fat a little more, giving it more of that melt in your mouth texture and velvety flavor. I highly recommend this place! Hikawa is awesome and a really cool guy!
