Located in the bustling Roppongi area, Luca’s Kitchen offers a unique kebab izakaya experience that caters to late-night cravings. However, be prepared for some quirks that have drawn mixed reviews from previous diners, including mandatory drink orders and a 500 yen table charge per person. These aspects were indeed true during my visit.

We ordered the beef kebab wrap and chicken kebab sando, both slathered with hot sauce. The hot sauce, reminiscent of sriracha, provided a satisfying kick, which I rated a solid 6 out of 10 for spiciness. The beef kebab was slightly dry and had a gamey flavor that didn’t quite hit the mark, while the chicken sando was delightful and cooked just right. I had initial reservations about the very brown whole wheat pita, as I generally prefer white pita, but it was tasty, albeit thinner than I would have liked. A thicker, white pita would have complemented the dish perfectly.

The appetizer we ordered was decent but on the small side, leaving us wanting a bit more. The atmosphere inside was lively and quite loud, filled with a sense of camaraderie among diners, which added to the izakaya experience. The staff was attentive, and while the attendant spoke Japanese well, their limited English made it challenging to engage in conversation about the area, which would have enhanced the visit.

Overall, I would consider returning to Luca’s Kitchen for late-night snacks and drinks. Despite being a bit pricey, the spacious and comfortable environment makes it a viable choice for a casual dining experience...
