Tokyo Furnished — Local services in Tokyo

Tokyo Furnished gave me the WRONG apartment and already rented out the apartment they gave me to someone else. To make it up, they offered a different apartment in a different city, which was incredibly inconvenient. I already made all my plans for the city I originally booked..

They also didn’t reimburse the taxi fee it took to switch apartments at the middle of the night even though they were at fault. They claimed because the new apartment is more expensive and larger, that they refuse to reimburse the taxi.

They have gone on and on about the new apartment being bigger, but it is infact NOT that much larger. The original booking is 65m^2 and the new one is 68 m^2. Also the new apartment is mostly hallway, so you don't even feel the extra 3m^2. I have never been so insulted by the constant gaslighting and audacity of Tokyo Furnished to try to get me to be complacent.

Keep in mind that the replacement apartment had less amenities than the one I originally booked, yet they still charge way more for the replacement apartment (that is not booked as frequently because it is overpriced). They keep on trying to gaslight me into thinking the new apartment is of more value (by their standards), when the new apartment was subpar and honestly, really terrible.

The original apatment also had a balcony and sunlight in a much more central city in Tokyo. In the new apatment, there was absolutely no natural sunlight, even during the day. It was also right next to the highway, so I could hear cars and ambulances very often. It is so insulting that Tokyo Furnished keeps on gaslighting and lying about how they are "so generous" so that they can avoid taking accountability for their mistake.

The new apartment was not clean, but I was already exhausted, so I gave up.

In a followup, Tokyo Furnished also had the nerve to try to convince me that the sheer amount of dust I saw in that apartment was "normal" in Tokyo, when I have lived in Tokyo for over a year and I know for a fact that it's not.

The drawers and shelves were dusty but not the table tops (which means that they did not dust the shelves, only the tops). This meant that there was no previous guests for a while, which makes sense because the listing price for the new apartment was super overpriced (nearly 2.5 times the market rate for the base rent in the area).

The plates and cups had grime in them from previous guests. There was so much trash from previous guests left in the cupboards. There was also trash undeneath the furniture... Yet, Tokyo Furnished also gaslit me saying that the apartment was completely clean... If clean meant only wiping down the surface areas and not touching anything out of sight.

Update: I tried so many times to communicate privately and was dismissed when asking about my security deposit until I posted a negative review. The security deposit was finally returned after a lot of back and forth and receiving many unprofessional and angry emails from them.

They sent me a seething email about my bad review and demanded that I fix it. I have lived in Tokyo for 2 years prior to this and have never had such a terrible experience with a rental company before.

We had a wonderful experience staying at Tokyo Furnished. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The location was perfect—centrally located and within walking distance of great shops, restaurants, and transportation options.
