Sushi Umiji — Restaurant in Tokyo

Rude & racist head chef. I walked by store and tried to ask him if we can make a reservation - even before I could ask he waved his hands and said “full, please leave”. Even though many seats were available.

I walked outside and called his restaurant pretending to be a different person and spoke in Japanese. Asked if they had any seats available and the staff says “yes, come anytime before closing/last order”.

I decided to make a reservation and go just to see the look on the chef’s face. I arrived, and the chef completely ignored me. Ordered via QR. Food quality also ended up being terrible, very fishy, drenched in Soy Sauce and over priced. One piece of poor quality sushi for ¥600+ with terrible service to top it off.

I don’t recommend this to anyone. Overall, terrible service, extremely rude chef, and terrible food. You can find much better places in Tokyo.

Worst experience in Tokyo to date. Don’t waste...

Arrived at 17:20, only one person sitting at the counter, and we asked for three seats. The sushi chef told us to come back at 18:00 and the lady working there said to come back 30 minutes later. We went across the street to kill some time at the Rum Room. We noticed people getting seated and I went back to ask if I needed to leave my name, which was answered with “no”. At 17:50 we returned and the lady came out and asked us to come back at 19:00… funny enough almost all seats were taken and we just had waited 30 minutes for nothing. Excellent value for omakase. We had the Umiji Omakase and if I recall correctly, it came with 13 pieces plus little side dishes, all of which were wonderful. I have never had such good chawanmushi, it was so delicately flavoured. We are from Vancouver and got the opportunity to chat with the chef who actually worked in Vancouver for a few years so that was a fun surprise. He was very personable and this place is not pretentious at all. If we had eaten the same meal in Vancouver it probably would have been...
