I studied the Russian language with Lingua Yurt online for well over a year and then I attended the Lingua Yurt school in Bishkek in person for 3 full, joyful and sun-filled months this last summer. I have to say, with much sincerity, that my experience with Lingua Yurt and all of the staff there has been absolutely positive right from the very beginning. The Russian language is a difficult language to learn, probably especially so for English speakers, but the language is also as beautiful and useful as it is difficult and so it is well worth the adventure. Of course one can study language on one's own without classes, but the Lingua Yurt teachers make the adventure so much more fun..
The price of lessons has gone up a bit since I attended the school last summer, but the prices are still very reasonable, especially considering the high quality and expertise of the teachers. As I have studied both online and in person at the school, I can confirm that both lesson genres are not only reliable, punctual and professional, but they are very enjoyable and motivating too. I also found the teachers at Lingua Yurt to be intuitive, meaning as they come to know their individual students, they intuitively bend the lessons according to what works best for the student.
So I lived in Bishkek and attended Lingua Yurt for 3 full months. The Kyrgyz summer sun shone literally every day and every local I asked said it was typical summer weather.. I loved it! Bishkek city itself, even with its one million plus population, seemed small and safe. I lived about a brisk 40 minute walk from the school, which was a perfect amount of exercise for me, but public transit was also readily available, efficient and very inexpensive.
Every couple of weeks the school arranged outings, like simple picnics and day hikes in the nearby mountains to full weekend adventures in more remote and extremely beautiful regions of the country.. and always, both in the school and on the trips, the Russian language was spoken.. I actually tried a few times to get certain of the teachers speaking in English just to see if I could do it, but they never faltered in their role:)...
While I attended the school I met many international students on the same language adventure. Some attended LY for a couple of weeks and some for months, yet I never heard a single complaint about the school or the teachers at all from anyone. In fact every other student I met and studied with seemed to hold the same high regard for the staff and school. If you are looking for a quintessential Russian language experience and school, you'll certainly find it at Lingua Yurt.
Thank you, Lingua Yurt, for one of the most memorable summers of...
ย ย ย Read moreI spent three weeks learning Russian at Lingua Yurt. The difference between studying on my own and taking classes at this school was like night and day. Initially, the rules for cases in Russian and other tricky grammar points were just randomly floating in my brain untethered. The instructors helped me put them in order and give it structure by doing drills and speaking exercises every single day. Despite how that sounds, it was never boring! Every day was an interesting new topic, and I always admired how flexible and engaging they were wherever the conversation goes.
Special thanks to my teachers Alina and Cholpon, who were super patient with my constantly distracted self, and are very knowledgeable about all aspects of the language. It was a very productive three weeks of learning! P.S. They organized an incredible trip to Ala Kol and was one of the highlights of my stay in Kyrgyzstan. They do these trips every once in a while. Do yourself a favor and join when they...
ย ย ย Read moreI can't imagine a better experience learning Russian than with the wonderful teachers at Lingua Yurt!
The teachers are highly experienced and can explain difficult topics clearly. At the same time, they are also very friendly and make an effort to get to know you as a person, not just as a student. The teachers create a learning environment that is supportive and positive; I am a very shy speaker, but I have never felt embarrassed making mistakes here because I feel so fully supported.
There is a well-developed curriculum that is planned to maximize efficiency, but there is no pressure to stick to the material -- you are free to use the lesson time to discuss topics of interest and relevance to you.
The price is extremely good for the quality of lessons provided.
And on top of all this, it's a women-led business, which is super cool to support in Kyrgyzstan!
I completely recommend this school to anyone looking to learn or improve their...
