TLDR: The excursions sales people are no better than the booths on the street, don't be fooled.
One of the sales people, Charlie, greeted us in the middle of the store. Talked us up about our plans and upsold us on excursions. He said if we bought something he would "get us a deal." He was very personable, funny and spoke great English. We booked the arch boat tour ($30 USD/person) with snorkeling ($5 USD/person) with the company Mr. Pingüi for the following day. He sent location info via WhatsApp. Not only did he set us up with a company that advertised "glass bottom boats", they didn't care to tell you that the waters were too rough for snorkeling until it was time to drop us off at the snorkeling beach; which I estimate to about 45 minutes later. The "glass bottom" was covered by two wooden boxes for life jackets. I for one do NOT understand how Charlie wouldn't know this after living in Cabo for many years.
I message him asking for a partial refund because we planned our trip, there was no opportunity to "go on another day." Not like we would've wanted to with Mr. Pingüi's communication. He recited (what the boat company said in person) over the phone and via text. He told me on the phone that Monday or Tuesday would work to meet at La Comer for the refund (amount not confirmed). I sent him a long message with all the issues with the request of a refund of $20 USD, this went read but not responded to. He proceeds to lie to me that he wasn't at work until Wedneday. We stop by the grocery on Monday and guess who we find? Charlie working. He wanted to refund us 200 pesos, not even USD. His manager steps in, tries to insinuate that we were drunk while at the beach, downplay that they have sent over 15 happy customers and none have complained. We put our foot down and received 180 pesos...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the store's cleanliness and organization. The aisles were wide, well-lit, and easy to navigate, making our shopping experience pleasant and efficient. What truly stood out was the incredible variety of products available. La Comer offers a fantastic selection of both local and international goods, from fresh produce and high-quality meats to an extensive array of pantry staples and specialty items. We were able to find everything on our list and even discovered some new products to try. The produce section, in particular, was impressive; the fruits and vegetables were vibrant, fresh, and clearly well-cared-for. Beyond the wide variety, the quality of the products was consistently high. The fresh bread from the bakery smelled and tasted delicious, and the selection of cheeses was top-notch. It's clear that La Comer prioritizes stocking excellent products, and it made our shopping feel more like a treat than a chore. The checkout process was also smooth and efficient, with a friendly cashier who made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, our trip to La Comer in San Jose was a fantastic experience. The combination of a wide variety of high-quality products, a clean and organized store, and excellent service made for a stress-free and enjoyable shopping trip. We'll definitely be returning for all our future...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. I am a permanent resident in San José since 2018 and have shopped at La Comer frequently. No longer will I patronize this poorly managed grocery store They have 14 checkstands but no matter how long the lines are they rarely open more than three or four. And whenever I'm in line they seem to sense that it is time to count out and collect the money from the till or change checkers. Today I tried to return a rotten frozen package of Hot Pockets. No English speakers at customer service. Horrible return policy. I left with no refund. I'm not just an entitled gringo retiree. I know the grocery business through seven years at Safeway from box boy to managements training school. I learned about rotating stock, maintaining freezer and refrigeration units, customer service, etc. Apparently La Comer employees get little traing in any of these necessary job requirements. I wont shop...
