Wow what a wondeful place. A visit to Holbox isn't the same without visiting this place. What commendable selfless work this animal refuge does. They have many dogs and some cats which they take such good care of. They need help. Please give whatever time, money and love to this wonderful cause.

Its so easy. They would appreciate even just taking one of their dogs for a short walk on the beach. And tell as many people of the great work they do. I walked Manika today and she was a star on the beach. Numerous people fell know love with her. How can it be that she has been in a shelter for 2 years?

The cats also gave me some hugs. Wonderful little ones and they were so chatty. I miss my little cat at home whilst on travels so this filled me up.

This is the best place on earth!!! The people that work and volunteer at this shelter are incredible, they are such hard workers and so devoted to the animals. You can tell they truly care and love these animals like their own pets, and treat all the animals with so much respect and compassion. I visited from Toronto, Canada, for the week and specifically chose to visit Holbox because of this animal shelter. It was the highlight of my trip getting to spend time with the dogs, playing and taking them for walks, and making new friends with the workers. I wish I could have adopted every single sweet dog and cat there! If you’re reading this, PLEASE support this shelter! Donate, or visit and volunteer. What an absolutely beautiful and heartwarming experience. Visiting the dog shelter in Holbox was a true highlight of our trip. The staff were kind and welcoming. You can see the dedication and love they have for the dogs. However they’re also very busy, so be prepared for a quick hello before heading out with your assigned dog. You’ll be given a poo bag and some clear instructions on where to walk and where to avoid. It’s a swift handover, but don’t take it personally—they’re short-staffed and focused on caring for the dogs. We walked Woody, a sweet and friendly pup, and Negrita, who was shy and walking for the first time. We took it slow with her, which felt meaningful. After the walk, we were invited into the shelter—our favourite part. Meeting the other dogs, many of whom came straight up for cuddles, was such a joy.
