It’s a nice sandy beach which stretches out across for miles but… and here’s the all important information for anyone visiting.
There were NO showers (at time of visit) or even any taps with running water for visitors and nearby hotel guests to clean themselves on the beach. We walked back to the hotel covered in sand from top to toe. Not a very flattering sight. The small changing area and showers located on the beach opposite where McDonalds is, was out of use - seemed like it had been decommissioned for some time. We did come across toilet facilities couple of days later on one of our evening walks, near to the public information building which seemed to have a shower but this is at least 1/4 mile from our hotel’s designated area of the beach and not visible from our location. Unable to ascertain if this was free to use or you had to pay. Again no information on this on the promenade or anywhere within the hotel. No clear nor visible signage anywhere. TUI (our travel operator) rep didn’t mention any of this either. Areas ‘reserved’ for specific hotels and sold as private beach space by hotels and tour operators are all run down and in need of serious upgrade! There are people begging, along the beachfront where the restaurants are. Not an issue for most people I imagine and they usually go away when you say ‘la shukran’ which means no thank you or do the universal hand gestures to say no. There is McDonalds, KFC and a couple of other restaurants along one stretch and a number of rundown and vacant premises at time of visit. We visited in the last week of May and things seemed a lot quieter than anticipated. The whole beach scene wasn’t as lively as we thought it would be based on the numerous travel videos/vlogs watched prior to our visit. Things did start to get busier from 1st & 2nd June. Annual School holiday for Moroccans also begins at this time. If you’re planning to visit and prefer a busier and livelier environment, then do bear this in mind.
I strongly believe with a little investment in a few key areas, this could be an amazing beach to all tourists both domestic and...
Read moreWas really disappointed because I had been really looking forward to coming to Agadir for a beach day at the end of week in Morrocco. I had read that Agadir was more used to tourists and so it was fine to use the beach in a bikini but after trying this I would absolutely not recommend. Me and my husband set up at a quieter part of the beach near a moroccon family in the swimming area. I felt self conscious taking off my dress but when two other European girls came to sunbathe in their bikinis I felt reassured to take off my dress to put suncream on to go in the sea. Immediately a moroccon man came and sat down between me and the other girls and just stared at us the whole time we were there. I was super uncomfortable so I quickly went to join my husband in the sea and looked back to see this man standing up with a huge e*ection staring at me and the other girls still. Even with my husband between me and this man, he still continued to stare when I was drying off (and for the record, none of us were in tiny thong bikinis or anything). He stayed the entire time and noone challenged him despite children being around him in his excited state and him not even trying to be subtle at what he was doing. Throughout the whole time we were there, all young men and adolescent boys would stare and point openly. We were also constantly harassed for money. In the end we had to leave the beach because a little boy would not stop begging us for money and grabbing me, it was so uncomfortable and I was upset that none of the locals saw fit to intervene at all. I had been used to a week of begging and what not but this was ridiculous. It was a terrible way to end...
