A Disgraceful, Unsafe, and Deceptive Experience – Avoid at All Costs i had to give 1 star but this place deserves to be shut down with no stars as if you was allergic or religious this is a violation of a person religious beliefs and lacks humanity or compassion to human rights Minus 5 stars
I rarely leave reviews, but I feel compelled to warn others about the appalling experience my partner and I endured at Blu Nil Restaurant. What started as a simple meal turned into an encounter marked by deception, hostility, and discriminatory behaviour, leaving us feeling unsafe and deeply disrespected.
We ordered a Lamb Shish and lamb taghine, specifically requesting lamb, but were served beef. Upon raising the issue, the staff became immediately defensive and aggressive. It became evident that some of the food was spoiled, likely hidden by burning parts of it. After tasting the dish, I experienced severe stomach issues within hours — a clear indication of the poor food quality. We barely touched the meal and ended up feeding most of it to a stray cat wandering around the terrace.
The service was equally appalling. We waited 15 minutes for bread to accompany the hummus, repeatedly asking for it. When it came time to pay, the waitress presented a bill that was significantly inflated, adding extra mains we never ordered. Only after persistent demands did they reveal the actual, lower amount. The deception was so blatant that one can only wonder how many unsuspecting tourists have been similarly defrauded.
However, the most distressing part was the overt hostility and discrimination we faced. My partner is Hindu was called a Paki , and I am mixed-race Jamaican British (The insult it similar to calling a Muslim a Jew and serving them pork disguised as chicken ), yet we were met with an aggressive and condescending attitude throughout the meal. Their disdain for us as foreign guests was palpable. This went beyond mere rudeness — the staff made inflammatory remarks, demonstrated clear intolerance towards our religious and cultural backgrounds, and mocked individuals with visible disabilities at nearby tables.
When we challenged the bill and refused to pay for the spoiled food, the situation escalated alarmingly. Staff members surrounded us, blocked our exit, and threatened us with physical violence. One even suggested taking the matter “round the corner” to settle it with a physical altercation. We were pushed toward a back room, isolated from other diners, and forced to pay under duress, fearing for our safety.
This establishment embodies everything wrong with hospitality. From fraudulent charges and expired food to racist behaviour and threats of violence, Blu Nil Restaurant is a disgraceful stain on the local dining scene. I strongly urge tourists, especially those from diverse backgrounds, to avoid this place at all costs. There are far better, safer, and more welcoming restaurants in the area that deserve your custom.
Tourists beware: This place does not respect its guests, their safety, or basic...

Was quite a peculiar experience. We had dinner at Camels next door last night and absolutely loved every minutes of it. Thought we'd try it's neighbor today thinking it must be equally good if not more given that it had a large crowd on both days. Oh boy was I mistaken. The service was next to nothing, they say us down then ignored us for good 20 minutes or so until I caught a waiters eye for the menu. Mind you by that stage I was already trying to look at the menu on Google maps.
The food came, the agadir/lamb Tajine looked miserable like it had been reheated at least few times. The meat had no flavor... As if it was boiled separately in water and then tossed rather quickly on top of the sauce and that's it. The beef Tajine tasted like your average beef stew. At least the beef Tajine looked fresh and was actually piping hot by the time it came to us.
Like literally, we paid few extra dirhams yesterday and had much tastier food. The lamb Tajine was massive enough that I had to give 3 pieces/cutlets and half an egg to my husband so he can help me finish. Whereas as you can see from the picture, blue niles Tajine was just 3 pieces.
Halfway through our meal, another waiter decided to sit two random strangers on our table. He didn't ask us, inform us or even look at us as he was doing that. The other two guests(?) felt awkward and before they could even sit down another waiter came and grabbed a chair and put it elsewhere. The waiter who had initially asked them to sit down came back with beers, put it on the table and asked them to still take seats. The woman had no other option than to sit on the armchair beside me... Over my cardigan, handbag and all.
I was fuming by that stage, tried to grab the attention of any waiter to get the check. Having failed to do so for around 15 minutes, my husband literally had to follow our waiter around all the whole shouting to catch his eye. The place is quite busy and I understand that the staff might be overworked and overwhelmed both. I'm not commenting here about whether they were friendly, smiling, asking us for our orders or if we need anything at all times. Not about being attentive. But having the basic decency of asking us or even looking at us when they're serving something or getting random people join our table!
Literally we had similar food, with a more extensive menu, a calmer atmosphere with very attentive servers next door. It was busy and had singers, taboura and other entertainment just like Nile Blue. With better service, food quality...
Read moreThis was one of the worst restaurant experience I had. We travel a lot so we also eat quite often in restaurants when travelling. We picked up this restaurant as it had good rating in google. We need to admit that food was very good and we enjoyed it a lot, however its been totally disgarded after a greedy waitress was trying to take advantage of us. The total bill for 4 persons was 555 MAD (265 MAD and 290 MAD), 2 couples. We asked if we can pay separately. The waitress said yes. I and my boyfriend were paying first by card. The waitress gave us terminal with amount 315 MAD (we were supposed to pay 265 MAD), but we figured out the waitress most probably added 55 MAD tip already for the whole bill and eventually we were ok with that as we were going to leave a tip anyway as we always do, however I was already sort of off that he hasnt have asked for our consent before charging us (the tip was not on the receipt as some restaurnats do, if it was, then I wouldnt say anything). Once we paid, the waitress was collecting the money from our friends, the other couple. They paid 290 MAD by card as they supposed to and then the waitress asked our friend for a tip and just stands there in front of him waiting. I already knew something is wrong as we calculated that tip was left for the whole bill, but it wasnt enough for greedy waitress. I told my friends not to pay. My friends were still thinking if they should leave a tip as they were quite confused whay had happend as they did not realize yet that I and my boyfriend already paid tip for all of us. Eventually we all stood up and started to walking out the restaurant and the greedy wiatress, realized he screwed up and attempted to give 50 MAD back to my boyfriend. My boyfriend refused, he didnt want to talk to this guy anymore and we left. It is really not about a tip, but about awful and poor service. Nobody likes feel cheated and we left totally disgusted by the experience, regardless lovely food. My recommendation: dont go there, not worth the experience.
I am not adding pictures of terminal receipts as it has our...
