I was very happy to receive a cake from Amsterdam Cakes as a gift. That is, I was happy to have a gift from family abroad in these times. However, the cake was very mediocre. Layers of sponge cake inside were dry, with a uniform look that suggests industrial baking. The flavour was flat, making me wonder whether items like the berries or syrup were fresh or home-made/home-prepared. A lot of sugar and cream seems to have been added to distract from these disappointing elements. Finally a normal cake shop in Amsterdam! We had such a nice experience here today, the cakes were extremely delicious, authentic and home made! An absolute quality place, I never had such a yummy black forest cake in this city before, and the pies reminds me my granny's pie from my childhood! The coffee and tea selection is super impressive, and coming from a quality brand. They also have a wide variety of sweets, and bonbons in delicate packaging. I ordered a Sacher Torte chocolate cake for the first time and I really loved it! It wasn’t too sweet. It was just right for me.

But my bf said it was mediocre to him. He’s had multiple Sacher Torte cakes in his life to compare it to and said it wasn’t as great as it could be. The cake itself should be more moist and soft. The texture was very sturdy.
