The woman w short blond/bleached hair behind the counter was incredibly arrogant and very rude to me. I don’t understand why, but it was super uncomfortable. I live around the corner and came in, being in a good, cozy/lazy Saturday mood. It was busy but no one was at the counter except me. Yet her level of tension/rudeness was exceptionally high. I looked up to find their coffees and she immediately arrived at the counter and asked for my order. I, smilingly, said “Hi..I’d like to see what sort of coffees you have.” My intention was obviously just to have a look in order to decide what sort of coffee to order. (I wasn’t sure if I wanted a cappuccino or another sort. That’s not a crime is it?) Her sarcastic response: “obviously we have coffee! What do you think?” Why this attitude instead of just showing me the menu or asking what I was in the mood for? Baffled, I responded: “oh..I think I might just go next door and order a coffee there instead.” Her reply: “yes please, better! I don’t like!” Not sure what she meant with “I don’t like” but I think she meant she didn’t like this situation of me asking what kind of coffee they have. Super duper weird! Especially since my vibe was polite and relaxed, and I didn’t take much time at all, I was only in there...
Read moreI usually do not write many reviews, but I’d like to make an exception for A’Volo.
Ever since my arrival at Haarlemmerdijk back during Covid-19, I have been a regular visitor at this warm Neapolitan delicacy. At the first glance, the staff doesn’t look too tolerant, but they definitely are! The same passion you’d find when SSC Napoli win the league title again, the same energy can be traced back in to their food and beverages. Espresso’s, deli sandwiches (5,50-8,00€, depending on extra toppings), pizza slices (avg €3,50), whole pizza’s (starting from 9€), cannoli.
It doesn’t really matter whether you’ve eaten already. Your senses immediately tell you to that you should eat as soon as you are in range of the store. To highlight, I would definitely recommend Panini Maradona(💙) or Diavola on an empty stomach. However, a pizza slice with margherita or potatoes (pizza con Patate) will always do.
I came to understand that A Volo means something like: “I am late for work, gimme a cup of coffee, a volo!” However, the establishment never feels rushed to me. Aside from the delicious food, the warm atmosphere, the conversations, and the good playlist makes you feel relaxed after...
Read moreQuickly becoming a favourite place to pop in for a coffee when in the area. I've been several times and always get the most friendly and welcoming service from the Italian ppl behind the counter. On top of that, it is great coffee, and I can't resist the tasty connoli. I'm yet to have a sandwich. It's not a big place, more suited for getting a takeaway coffee or sandwich, as there is very little seating due to the size. A+ customer service, and you know you're on to a good thing when lots of the clientele are...
