Great gelato from a local business!
We thought we’d stop by their pop-up store in town to try out some of their gelato! We were very satisfied by the range of flavours, including some classic flavours like chocolate fudge and mango, as well as some more unique flavours like boysenberry Stracciatella, masala chai, and even Gochujang caramel (which was quite a intriguing combination!). It’s great to see these flavours in a real gelato, rather than ice cream. Definitely makes for a lighter dessert! (And the waffle cracker is a great touch 🐻)
It’s also great that they offer takeaway tubs if you’re like to save some for later.
We had the chocolate fudge, boysenberry stracciatella, mango, and masala chai, and they were all superb! I was pleasantly surprised at how rich the masala chai was - hints of cinnamon and ginger really came through!
I will say this is a treat, and while it might seem on the higher side, it is on par with (or cheaper) than other dessert chains.
The experience was really enjoyable. The owners seemed really passionate and I hope to visit Bear Gelato at a farmers market in the community!...
Read moreNow don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good to great gelato places in Auckland. But if I'm being honest, there is one that stands out among them all as the absolute best- both in flavors and quality. And you're reading the review for that best place: Bear Gelato. Without going over the top, they've designed unique flavors that have been begging to be released as a frozen confection (Black Sesame and Pineapple Tart are two excellent examples). They instantly make my tastebuds exceedingly happy.
And the couple that started and run this beautiful place show their pride and joy in having you there through their fantastic creations, and their bright, welcoming smiles. I know, I sound like a proud uncle. And if I was their uncle, I'd be most proud (and constantly bugging them for free gelato.)
Seriously, most gelato is good, but this Bear Gelato is...
Read moreWe went to Howick from North Shore especially to try your mochi gelato. We were dissapointed with your very slow service, there was no sense of rush nor care for the amount of people waiting in the rain. Anyways, the lady who served us was nice and appologetic about the wait which was appreciated. The gelato flavour was good but we felt that the mochi wrap was so thin that we couldn't enjoy the stretchy and chewy texture of the mochi. Regarding the price, $11 for a kid's size gelato scoop wrapped in a thin mochi is unfair and overpriced when a same size gelato in any shop in Auckland is $5- $6, we won't be happy to pay more than $7 for this treat. Was ok, we tried it once and it's enough, no desire...
