I booked Kiin Thai for my birthday lunch with my family as I heard it was quite busy. They were punctual and got our table cleaned up really quickly when we got there. We ordered 5 minutes before my parents and grandma arrived and the entree arrived within minutes of them sitting down and the mains arrived very soon after we finished with the entree.
We ordered the: • Entree Tom Yum Wonton which were recommended by a friend and definitely was one of our top favourites. Wrapper was nice and crunchy, meat was seasoned according to our taste. Definitely would recommend trying this. • Pad Thai which is probably one of my favourites I’ve ever tried my whole life. My daughter also says it’s her favourite. The balance of sweet and salty was perfect with the added squeeze of lemon. The peanuts added a nice crunch and nutty flavour and because it came out steaming hot, it cooked the bean sprouts when mixed together, perfectly, too • Pad See Ew which had more of a Chinese flavour profile and was preferred by a few people over the pad thai. I personally didn’t enjoy this as much as the Pad Thai • Massamun Curry was yum and had a nice nutty flavour. Potatoes were also a highlight • Prawn Tom Yum Curry was also enjoyed by some of our seafood lovers. I personally don’t enjoy seafood but was told that the curry was well balanced, not too salty or fishy. • Chicken Green Curry is one of my favourite dishes to order at Thai restaurants and this one definitely surpassed all other green curries that I’ve tried. I was so happy we had leftovers to have at home (we also ordered 3 bowls of Jasmine rice to share between 6 adults) • Kra Pao Minced Pork on Rice was a tad on the salty side due to the minced pork but it paired really nicely with the Sweet and Sour Papaya salad (which the server kindly checked with us before putting through the order as we initially ordered the salty salad without realising) • Thai Milk Tea was also really delicious and paired nicely with our meal. I’ll be sure to try the Nom Yen drink next time.
They also kept my birthday cake in the fridge and accommodated us amazingly well. We will be back to try other dishes (and some repeats) very soon.
Thanks again Kiin Thai team for such a memorable dining...
Read moreDO NOT recommend! There was only 1 table when we entered, however waited 40mins for pad Thai. Ordered Pork but came as Beef. No explanation, no apology, just said “weird” to us. Pad Thai had no flavour and even the meat had no flavour. Replying to Owner: Firstly, no one repeated our order to confirm when we initally ordered, no one even checked if there is any allergy needs to be aware of. Secondly, the waitress came to us holding an iPad, however she did not use the iPad when we were ordering and went straight to the table behind us for their order. We only have 45mins for lunch break and left work 15mins earlier across the road to visit your place for Lunch. We placed an order with the waitress exactly at 11.38am because i took a photo of the menu and send it to my friend to share what i was eating right after we placed the order with the waitress. I am not sure what you are trying to do here when i have already informed you during payment and in this review that the order placed was wrong for beef instead of pork. You did not acknowledge us at payment and even after your long reply, I still received no apologies or acknowledgement for your wrong order. We didnt ask for any refund or return of order or make a complaint when the order was served wrong, we simply wanted to let you know at payment so service can be improved. Also, we had to settle the bill because we dont have any more time for Lunch but had to go back to work. You had the time and effort to go through your system for exact time copy to reply, yet you dont have the time to apology and acknolwdge your service was lacking. Now, i feel even stronger not to recommend this place. Such a...
Read moreI've wanted to try this place since they were on Mt Eden and now I was able to go to their new premises on Dominion Road. We did book to pre-order the mango sticky rice. It was also because we didn't want to miss out, which was a good idea since it did fill up fairly fast for dinner. The menu isn't super big but does have quite a few interesting options, particularly in the season specials page. We grabbed a few things to share as a group. I grabbed a Thai iced milk tea while waiting for my friends and it was quite nice with the frothy head. My favourite of the night was the ton yum wontons. Fried crispy wontons topped with mince and a tom yum sauce, salty, sweet and not too sour. One of my friends ate the sauce with rice. I also quite liked the mango sticky rice, nicely cooked and flavours sticky rice with a whole lot of mango and coconut sauce. The fried chicken dry noodle was also tasty. The Penang beef cheek and whole fried snapper were also nice. The crab fried rice was a little on the dry side. It was a really nice place for good Thai food. My expectations were met mostly because of the tom yum wonton and mango sticky rice. Definitely keen to come back to try some of the other items like the lamb...
