Hollyford Wilderness Experience — Local services in Fiordland Community

4Nov16 Excessively high rating for an excessively extraordinary experience. My wife and I were two in a party of 15. Our guide, one of the tour's lead guides was so relaxed about starting the first day (today) of walking - a 20KM stretch with packs for each tramper - at about 11:00AM that it was hard for non-walkers and unfit trampers (there were a couple of us) to quell the mental arithmetic loop that estimates what hour of night-time the tramping is going to end. But the knowledgeable - that word doesn't do Lead Guide Graham justice so let's switch to encyclopaedic - companionable and periodic stopping guide pulled and pushed us through eight hours of walking and stumbling until we all got to Pryke Lodge and blessed relief ... and showers and dinner. You book and find out the rest for yourself. If this doesn't change you and/or your thoughts about flora and fauna then you need to catch the next shuttle to Mars to see if that will knock some feeling into your mindset. The whole experience was first class. The guides were outstanding, so much knowledge of the area. The hosts at the lodges were very welcoming, the drivers of boats, buses and helicopters great. The lodges were exceptionally clean. All meals and snacks were plentiful. We saw more and learnt more than if we had done a freedom walk- seals sand dunes and extra out of way scenery. if you haven’t done much multi day hiking this is a great walk with minimal challenges. What an amazing experience! We loved our guided walk. From help with the booking, the transport to the track, the amazing and extremely knowledgeable guides, the jetboat driver, the welcoming lodge hosts, comfortable lodges and excellent food - this trip had it all. There is nothing that I could think of that would improve the experience (unless you work out a way to control the sand flies ;)
