Such a muck around. Good food served slowly by staff who seem to stare at you with a glazed expression while being unsure whats going on. Maybe they were all hungover? Tis the season, after all.
Waited close to 40 minutes. When we asked where our meal was, they told us they had given it to someone else. We were offered their order instead... at full price. No discount. Not what we ordered. We declined, and said we were happy to wait for the right meals to be made. Only to be told that they wouldn't do them as we had ordered breakfast and they'd swapped to lunch menu while we were waiting
No other solution offered, we were given a refund with barely an apology. Cherry on top? We got home and realized they had short changed us on the money. To their credit they did say they'd rectify at least that, but to be honest, not worth the headache on our end.
I'm a local, there are plenty of other great eateries nearby with competent staff and friendly service. Would recommend giving somewhere else a try, especially if you want to definitely be able to eat. This isn't the first time the staff there have made a mistake, just the first time I've felt the need to write a review. Had the problem been dealt with appropriately it would have been a different story. Customer service shouldn't be...
Read moreSelected the place because it was listed on our hotels' restaurant list as open until 9pm (one of the very few places in Kaikoura open after 8). Their menu actually stated that they were open until 10pm. We arrived at 8pm with plans to have a couple mains, share a salad, share an appetizer, enjoy a few beers and maybe even share a dessert. However, the person taking our order informed us they were closing in 15 minutes. I pointed out their closing time at the top of the menus prominently displayed at the ordering counter and she noted that the close when it is slow. It was a Tuesday during the heart of the summer season. The dining area was half full!
As a result, we ordered a pizza and a salad for take away, spending a third of what we probably would have spent. We even bought our drinks from the dairy next door!
In the end, the food itself was pretty meh. The bbq pizza needed more bbq sauce and the inclusion of pepperoni is a bad choice. Let the bbq chicken by be the star of a bbq chicken pizza. The Greek salad was pitiful. Mostly rocket lettuce and not enough of the other toppings.
I definitely would not go back, nor would I recommend...
Read moreI had the peri fire burger from here and it was probably the tastiest burger I have ever had.
The chicken thigh was succulent and fresh (not processed), the jalapeño poppers gave the burger great spice and flavour, it had a generous portion of bacon, and the cheese, which is mad on site, was stringy and added to the overall appeal of the burger.
I loved the addition of the jalapeño poppers rather than sliced jalapeño as it added crunch and the perfect amount of heat throughout the whole burger.
All of the ingredients were fresh and went well together. It was not overly saucy but that is not a negative as it was just the right amount.
It was served with a side of fries that were seasoned perfectly. There wa absolutely no need to dip them in sauce.
I enjoyed it so much that I had to have a other one before leaving town.
I highly recommend giving Tipsy Foodies Kaikoura a try. I believe you...
