A beautiful studio space that provides a tranquil and pensive oasis right in the heart of the Wellington CBD. The studio space is gorgeous - with stunning wall art, a peaceful waiting area, and bright, light, and open studio rooms. The teachers are all really friendly and helpful and keen to chat to fresh faces. The studio's ethos is uniquely appropriate and responsive to the New Zealand context - mixing traditional yogic practice and teachings with the Māori hauora (health/wellbeing) philosophy of Te Whare Tapa Whā - and a credit to the studio's owners/facilitators. This is a true Kiwi studio. The classes themselves don't disappoint either: the studio offers a mixture of classic heated vinyasa flow, meditation, yin, and align yoga practices - there is something for every taste. Each class is both spiritually and physically uplifting, melding together the physical challenge of various postures and transitions with breathing technique and mental focus - all seamlessly combined in a way that feels effortless and genuine. A great experience all round. I finish each class feeling refreshed and centered (a rarity for me!). Will definitely aim to be involved with this studio...
Read moreI practise at Awhi as the studio offers a great range of yoga classes from hot to yin and vinyasa. In addition, Awhi also organises alternative workshops in sound healing, meditation (Loughlan does great sessions) to self-help classes which I find refreshing as an experienced practitioner- the trauma workshops with Dr Cherie is phenomenal! Yoga is not just a healthy workout but it is also a practise of spiritual self preservation- so it’s great to see these classes are an option. The teachers are very nice and the students are friendly. It’s always a lovely vibe coming into the space. There is definitely a loyal following of regular practitioners from those that visit during their lunch break or after work, to those that come for their weekend practise. Classes are designed for beginners to intermediate yogis and are practised by young and old as well as families :) They provide facilities like showers, change room, cubby hole style storage, a chill out space and hot tea. I would...
Read moreJust joined Awhi on their $49/30 days intro rate: I’m super satisfied and can’t recommend this place more highly! The instruction and guidance is first-class; and the sequences are just the right level of challenging yet achievable so each session feels like an accomplishment. I started this to complement weights training and i’m feeling each really benefit the other, even in a short time. Strength, stability, stamina, breathing and MENTAL STRENGTH all improving fast! Added benefits are the studio space is beautifully set up, and the staff are incredibly friendly and make an effort to remember your name (I work in hospo so I appreciate those little details 😉). Plus you get home for dinner feeling amaaaaaazing! Just done my 6th class: can’t wait for heated vinyasa...
