Despite museums definitely not being my first choice of activity I experienced for the first time the "sensory hour" here. Which is on the first Thursday of every month. Although the open room at the start isn't my fav area, for the rest of it I remember never feeling so relaxed/peaceful and aswell as good confidence in a public space (WGT) with lots of noticeable goodness. Especially in comparison to previous school trips to the same museum spots. The staff were really amazing upon entry, clearly stating in a nice diverse way that the current exhibition is not apart of the "sensory hour" in which I shouldn't enter. After my time in the general museum which was appealing enough (3.8/5), which had many interesting elements and spaces- I particulary liked the court room and the cairage space. The shop was a very open and great for exploration of products, I also got a amazing farewell greeting upon my exit from the staff member 😁. The words described on poster on the wall was very uplifting too! Although I don't believe I'll be returning in the near future perhaps, the new Takina centre, te papa and just general places could look into having something similair. It would do alot for...
Read moreFelt welcomed as soon as we walked through the door(by Emma) just made us feel relaxed immediately. Wiramu was our guide and lucky for us we were the only people on the tour! Such an incredible way to be introduced to the museum and history of Wellington. He is very knowledgeable and is passionate about telling you which definitely makes the tour more interesting! We got the package deal through Bookme but wouldve paid way more just for the tour - highly recommend, especially if you re short on time. The fish'n'chips (included) are from a local restaurant less than 2mins from the museum- just beautiful! The boat is big enough to accommodate over 60 people easily so wasn't too much of an issue a getting a seat. Make sure you go upstairs and sit at the front for the most amazing views! Wine and beer available on board for a reasonable cost. Somes/Magic Island is just magic, especially on a beautiful day like we had! Fantastic trip highly recommend for visitors and...
Read moreRecently visited with a school group of 11 and 12 year olds. It was very disappointing to witness the tour guide talking to the young minds and giving the impression that the negative affects on Wellington's environment and animal life were solely down to the arrival of Pakeha. It needed to be more balanced and address the fact that the arrival of every type of settler has a negative affect and that everyone, including Pakeha are working to address the negative impacts. On other topics 'personal truths' were referenced, when children questioned the logic, however many children (and adults) don't know what that means and believe the truth to mean factually what happened not what someone believes. I suspect many children left with the impression that all the negative impacts were solely down to Pakeha and what they were being told was the truth. These tours need a more...
