We heard that Featherston bar and grill does Sunday roast with a good review, so we came here for our meet-up dining group last night! The whole meal was $26 which was a very affordable price with 3 very thick slices of pork loin, a very small piece of crackling and apple sauce on the side + several jugs of gravy. Underneath the massive Yorkshire pudding, there were 3 big pieces of potatoes and some Kumara with the side of pepper sprinkled carrot slices and grated cabbage, the portion size was pretty formidable! I personally like my roast swimming in gravy so the amount of gravy on offer made me very happy! Even though we all got a very small piece of crackling on our plate, but we were given an extra bowl of crackling on the side, so could not complai! The crackling was slightly thick but it did not affect its crunchiness, I think the only downside for me was how dry the Yorkshire pudding was, you can see it's very sunken in the middle and it is the texture of very toasted toast crust, which was slightly disappointing, but considering the price, the portion and the flavoyr of everything else, we were very happy, and many of us struggled to finish! However, a meal was not complete without dessert and their desert menu was very cheap at $10 each, some of us got the desert trio which was $25 for all 3 dessert. The trio was carrot pudding with orange curd drizzle, Oreo cheesecake and vanilla ice cream with hershey's chocolate sauce. The cheesecake was very rich but the cookie base was a bit on the thick side, the pudding was well liked and ice cream was, well, it's ice cream ๐. A few of us in a group were keen to come back again with their other family and friends, so this gathering...
ย ย ย Read moreI can't rate it a 0 so a 1 star will do. Just had the most bizarre bad experience in this pub. I popped in at lunch to place a bet on the Melbourne Cup. I went to an area as directed by one of the staff to grab a bet slip and waited at an empty leaner for about 3 minutes for my colleague to show up. As he arrived, the Manager (I actually think owner?) approached us and abruptly told us the area was reserved and we needed to leave it. I politely said we were just going to place our bets and head out. He then became aggressive, quickly. We moved to another area of the bar as instructed and he followed us closely. I turned to him to discuss that his own staff had said we could go into the 'reserved area' (that had no reserved signs, for the record). At this point he continued to argue and was simply not happy with what I said. I was speaking calmly and normally as he got angrier. I then asked him to calm down and move away and we'd place our bets and leave. He then kicked us out, telling us to place our bets elsewhere. Absolutely disgusting customer service and behavior from a senior staff member. My colleague was shocked at what he witnessed and I was in shock at what occurred. I'd be careful of doing anything perceived as wrong in this place or this guy will be all over you. If you're stressed because its s a busy day mate, take a break and not take it out...
ย ย ย Read moreI'm impressed! I really like this place - great atmosphere, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were happy, the service was fast and friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and most importantly, the food was great. The bar manager even cruised around with a platter of nibbles for people to try - I had a deep fried cauliflower and it was delicious.
People at my table ordered the Venison Burger, special ($18.50), the chickpea & spinach fritters with pomegranate, yoghurt & avocado oil dressing ($11), and the 250g Primestar Rib-Eye Steak with garlic butter, green bean salad & steak fries ($29.50). Even had room for dessert, which was a delicious Warm Chocolate Brownie with mandarin confit & crรจme fraiche ($7.50).
All in all, a great experience. I will definitely be...
