Nestled on Level 1 of the Te Papa Museum, this cafe offers a delightful dining experience amidst a pleasant atmosphere. The wide range of offerings on the menu ensures there is something for everyone, making it a perfect spot for brunch on a Saturday morning! The cafe's counter is laden with a variety of nice food options, particularly their extensive selection of sandwiches which are both fresh and really flavorful. However, the standout dish that I highly recommend is their 'Thai beef salad' and 'Falafel salad'. They are my favorites - incredibly delicious, with a perfect balance of flavors (Not small, not large, just the perfect size). However, I have to admit that their fries left something to be desired. I found them lacking in crunchiness, which is a key factor for me when it comes to enjoying fries. Perhaps a slightly longer fry time or a different cut could enhance their texture without losing their good flavor. So, while they're decent fries that complement the meal well, there's definitely room for improvement in achieving that perfect crunchiness. In addition to the tasty food, two of the highlights are their chai latte and flat white, which I often ask with coconut milk. Their texture are always right, making them a comforting and perfect choice to complement any meal. The prices are very affordable, offering great value for the quality of food and beverages provided. The staff are another highlight, being consistently friendly and attentive, which adds to the overall pleasant dining experience. After enjoying a satisfying brunch, there's a lovely shop next to the café where you can browse unique items (a bit expensive item though). Additionally, the Te Papa Museum itself offers free exhibitions that are definitely worth a visit if you...
Read moreToday I am discussed with the service of this cafe we came into today with a group of elderly an this visit was pre booked since October so they were aware we were arriving.
We get to lunch time about 12pm lunch and we head to the outside cafe area where there is seating an shade we seat a few on seats which needed the seating area.
And before we could sit to eat our lunch we prepared because we were advised by our booking that this area was available for us to eat.
A waitress comes out doesnt offer to take our order just assumes and tells us its okay this once to eat here but we have to move in 20minutes. Because there opening an basically needed the area for paying people.
Which what she didnt realise is we were going to purchase hot drinks to have with lunch for 12people, But instead they assumed we didnt look like we could purchase from here.
Yes we were maori an european in the group group of elderly which all have a form of mental health . And because of one person who felt the need to discriminate IS DAMN RIGHT OUT APPAULING.
So dont ever expect a visit from us again as this would have been a first trip out of there town for most of them.
And you waitress or this cafe just lost some awesome people who would have loved to be surrounded by this beautiful museum that has a MAORI NAME.
I suggest Te PaPa you hire people who know there tikanga and know values because you never know what kind of support you may need in the future.
Just remember MENTAL HEALTH is a real thing an your employees need to know the meaning of RESPECT for your...
Read moreI'm not one to normally leave a bad review but my experience here today was really poor unfortunately. The food and drink was great (for me at least), however the service by the person at the counter was really poor. I was the last to order in my group and when I was given another table number, I politely pointed out that I was at the same table number as my group that ordered before me (which I'd already said before I started ordering). They then rolled their eyes and mumbled 'yeah okay, jesus'. I work in customer service and I know it's hard but this kind of service is shocking and quite frankly if I were them, I would be embarrassed.
When the last coffee for our group arrived (which we had to remind them of) it was a flat white and not a latte like they'd ordered. When they politely pointed this out the waitress said in a condescending tone, 'yup so it's basically the same thing'. Doesn't take a barista to know that a flat white and a latte are different!
Definitely won't be back and I'd encourage any other visitors to go to the cafe upstairs instead, had a much better...
