Just read a post that the City Council in West Akld are doing 'maintenance' on the area where babies are buried @ Waikumete Cemetary. Ripping out any kind of memorials, decorations, memoirs etc that families have placed there in remembrance of their loved ones. My nephew is resting there & it sucks they are doing this... If you have family or know of family who have a lil one resting there tell them to check incase they go & are unable to find them :( its not right!!

It just shows the little progress government agencies have made when it comes to human diginity! Their decisions are based on the bottom line, not being human. So sad

Samething has happened here with the light rail track. A few graves in a couple of cemeteries have been bulldozered over to accomodate for the track. Then further in time people will wonder why that area of the track is plaqued with so much "mysterious" trouble

But aunty they're removing crosses, plaques etc that families put up for their babies. Cut the grass but don't take the decorations etc.. how are they supposed to mourn their loved one if they can't even find them? Isn't it council who are supposed to take care of the groumds any way?

Do something about this Waikumete Cemetery! ...

Most of my family are deceased now- and I only just found my grandfather's grave (photo of). He died in our home in Glen Eden- with the solace and sorrow of our family who loved him dearly- and honored his pride of his service in the British Navy of his homeland of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom- and buried him here in the Military Cemetery. It is all as I remembered it so vividly of when he died when I was eleven years old. I so appreciate to have found photograph record of his grave site here. Rest in peace Grandpa Davies- in your paradise and the most beautiful and peaceful country...
