I had a total of 7.5 hours of instruction over 4 days in Siargao, Philippines, with Quintin of Sea Breeze Kite Club. I have a Masters Degree in Education and I felt Quintin had a natural talent for teaching - for example allowing me to discover my own mistakes rigging up the kite and correcting myself instead of correcting me while I was doing it... or asking me questions which required me to think critically or reinforced lessons learned. I felt he took safety very seriously and educated me on safety procedures in various scenarios. Over the four days I made a lot of progress, I was able to stay upwind and became consistent in successfully making transitions in direction while staying above water. It was not my first time kite boarding but these were break-throughs which were definitely achieved with the help of instructional pointers and tweaks by Quintin. The one criticism I have is that the teacher-student walkie-talkie communication equipment was broken and unavailable. This equipment is pretty basic to enhance instruction and it is also helpful for safety - for example an instructor can communicate to the student to âStopâ if they have gone too far in a direction or are unaware of approaching riders, jet skies, etc. But all-in-all a great experience and I plan on taking some instruction on Bantayan Island, Philippines with Sea Breeze. I will also mention that their online booking and communication experience was excellent. I had been contacting several schools and SBKC was the most professional, responsive and...
Read moreThe best kite school in Siargao! Highly recommended if you want to learn to kite here or if you want to get out on the water yourself.
The school is run by Andreas and his warm and hardworking team, Flavy and Jondy (by the time i was there). They all have enormous experience and that combined with their pure passion for kiting, inspires and enthuses you immediately.
The instructors are enormously patient, enthusiastic and immediately make you feel confident, which is what you want when you start kiting. In addition, they are enormously flexible. If you want to learn to kite, they take into account your travel plans.
If you can already kite, they welcome you just as warmly. They give you all the information you need about the lagoon, renting gear, launching and landing the kite etc.. and all besides that, they will keep an eye on you and give you tips if you might want to.
And besides kiting, they welcome you to have a bite to eat or a drink in the evening in General Luna. The more the merrier, Andreas always says. Should you prefer to go out on your own, no problem. Then they will give you all the tips you need, because they know Siargao like no other.
In short, this kiteschool is highly...
Read moreWhen I decided to go to Siargao with a friend, I initially thought that it is an island only for surfing. I was so wrong, many people have this image but it is actually the perfect place to kite surf. Warm, shallow water in a lagoon. No need to be afraid of flying away, being able to walk anywhere you kite and the team is always looking out for you. And who doesn't want to spend all day in/on the water while looking at the beautiful turquoise water, white beaches and coconut trees? I was so happy that I found the seabreeze kite school and ended up going kite surfing on four days during a one week stay on the island. The team this season (Andreas, Flavie and Jondy) are very lovely and extremely skilled in kite surfing. They gave me such great tips to improve my riding and were always helping me out :-) thanks guys! The team also knows the best spots on the island for food, sunset, drinks, parties - so go check them out to kite surf or to have a chat! I cannot wait to come back to...
