Honest review coming from an experience renter. I called Philippine Rent a Car on 11/16/2023 to enquire about their car rental company. I ended up renting a car from them on 11/16-11/18/2023. They charge a rate of approximately 2,050 pesos a day for a Vios Automatic. I will provide my straight forward review under the pros and cons. Pros: -It's a legit big car rental company with many different branches. -I talk to Ronaldo(worker) on the phone. He was a nice man and easy to talk with. He assured me that they have the car(Vios) available on the lot and made sure the car is clean and ready. -Before I left the lot I made sure to take pictures and video of the car for my own protection. Ronaldo assured me that they are not picky with minor small scratches. I still pointed out to him the scratches, dings, and dent that I notice. He was ok with that.
Cons: This company charges on the actual dates not on actual 24 hours day. So for the dates above. They charge a total of 3 days. -The Insurance coverage suppose to be included on the daily rate not sure why they still charge you for minor damages. -Allowance of 150 kilometers a day for free after that it's 6 pesos per kilometer. -Deposits are very steep 15,000 pesos on hold to your credit card. -Make sure to return the vehicle clean in and out or they will charge you. And I made sure to get it washed or else they will charge you 1,500 pesos to clean it. -I returned the vehicle on 11/18. I was told the car looks good except for some scratch on the front left wheel hubcap and also I exceeded the mileage allowance. I offered to pay for it on the spot. The guy that received the vehicle told me I can only pay for the exceeded mileage on the spot and not for the wheel hubcap scratch. So I paid on the exceeded mileage. -11 days later I received an email from Al Jepe. Included are my liabilities. One scratch hubcap 2,000 pesos. Toll road: 1,150.50. -These are plastic hubcap clip ons. I shop around and you can get one for 300-500 pesos each. You can get a brand new 4 piece set for 1,500 pesos online. -I ask a question to Al Jepe why so much and I also requested for the quote of the repair. I told him that one of the hubcap is scratch not broken. I was told by him that he will send it but never received it that day. -12/3 I emailed him back about the receipt and received no respond. -12/18 Al Jepe sent me an email for the receipt of 3,150.50 charges on my card. I told him where is the repair quote that you promised you will provide. Why did you charge me already without providing a quote for the repair. He provided a receipt later on from Toyota Otis for 4,992 pesos for one hubcap. More than what originally quoted at the beginning. Not a repair quote but for a brand new hubcap.
Overall: Just take a look at the picture of the scratch and tell me if this is warranted 2000 pesos repair or a replacement for 5000 pesos. This is so unsatisfactory. I am very disappointed since I plan to return and rent again. Due to the bad experience I received I am not going to rent from this company again. If they are willing to charge you this much for one scratch wheel hubcap which is only a clip on. I can only imagine what they will charge you for a scratch door, scratch headlight,...
Read moreThis is the worst renting experience and the worst customer service I have ever had. In short - don't rent here, I wished a million times I just paid more for a car to avoid this mess. In long: I know the owners of this company will never take any accountability or responsibility and will probably call me a liar/entitled like they do with other people leaving negative comments, so I will be as detailed as possible and am happy to provide photos and screenshots. To start - upon arriving to pick up the car we have been told by the owners that our deposit that was paid in advance never arrived, and they can't give us a car before the deposit is paid. Interestingly enough, the deposit was magically found 5 minutes after we decided to leave. The car honestly looked older than 2019 to me, and the acceleration on it was horrible, but whatever. The cars overall are fine. If the service was good, I would have been happy with that.
The fun started when the car was to be returned. We were reminded to "clean the car to avoid penalty" - I asked what exactly it meant and never got a responce. Later it turned out that you are supposed to wash the car before returning, which I have never heard from them nor experienced from anyone else before. That makes me think the penalty is their goal in that. Fine again, just let me get the deposit back. We have picked up a car on the 15th of April and returned on the 20th of April. I have sent countless reminders to send the deposit and to notify me when they sent it. A week after the car was returned I was told they need my bank details to send the money - sure, no problem. Another week passes, and now it turned out the deposit was already processed - as they say on the 14th of April, before I even picked up the car! I asked how does it work and got no clear answer, but just statements that my bank is at fault now. I contacted the bank, and asked the rental for transaction number, ARN code - any information to track the deposit they supposedly sent. All I got was a photo of an email to their finance responsible asking to return my deposit, and more blame shifted towards my bank. Another few weeks after my bank suggested to file a despute - meaning they consider original payment of a deposit a fraud, and will request it back on official level. I reached out to the car rental again to offer to solve it before it comes to that - to no success. On the 23rd of July, three months after I returned the car, I have finally received the money back with assistance of my bank. This experince was extremely negative, no service or company has been as rude to me before, and unfortunately it spoils the amazing memories I have made on Philippines otherwise. Read moreI rented a car between the 10th of October and the 4th of November 2023 to travel up to Zambales. Including a great deal of touristic mileage during the period. I found their client take on procedures to be very exacting and included the requirement for me to send photocopies of my passport, driving licence and credit card. Being based in the UK, this gave me some comfort to know that they operate a professional organisation and that I was not likely to have any difficulty when I arrived to pick up the. As expected, a pre authorisation transaction for 15,000 PHP was made to my credit card when I picked up the vehicle. It did take almost a month for this to be cleared but it didn't bother me as it was a pre-authorization rather than an actual charge and didn't incur the 7% convenience charge. They don't use a traditional diagram of the car with damage marked, but instead take detailed photos of every part of the vehicle. I was sent a link the following day to these photos. The same procedure is used when dropping off the vehicle where the car is completely rephotographed with the renters driving licence in the picture to prove that it is the genuine return photographs. I'm sure you will know that they are extremely good value for money. If you are reading this review and I would like to add that I was extremely pleased with the vehicle I was supplied which was a wonderfully cheerful, bright yellow colour and extremely economical to drive. There is a sticker visibly attached to the dashboard to say that customers returning cars without having them washed first will be charged 1500 PHP. So I made sure I invested 150 to get a great job done cleaning the car at a local service centre. I will definitely be returning here to rent a car when I come back for a month...
